PS2 How to install opl without freemcboot

Forum Noob
When my ps2 couldn't read discs. I took it to a repair shop. The guy installed opl on it but he didn't use freemcboot as my ps2 doesn't support it. Now I want to update opl but without freemcboot just like the repair shop did.

Nope. That's why we went to the repair shop, and that is why he installed opl. Also he said it is installed on the memory card if that helps

Well, you have already answered the first question, your console still does not read discs because they did not repair it for you.

Which brings us to the next question:

What steps do you take to launch OPL?

I start the ps2 and then hold the triabgle button until opl appears. If I don't hold the button, opl won't start. And the ps2 screen where it says "browse" will appear

That's DEV.1-Mode of a modchip.
Start wLE from USB via the APPS-page!

The problem is that you need to first add the "ulaunch elf" apps "conf_apps.cfg" file so that opl recognizes it and for that you need to put it on the memory card using a file manager like "ulaunch elf" itself.

Friend, whoever installed it for you should have also put the "Ulaunchelf" file manager and put you
this application as boot by default instead of OPL.

this is how it would start
the "Ulaunchelf" and you could update OPL simply by copying it to the memory card, this way you can add more applications but without this I do not see the way to do it.

It only remains to return and tell it to install "Ulaunchelf" as the default boot application.

However, it doesn't hurt to try pressing "R1" instead of "triangle" and see if the "Ulaunchelf" menu appears by chance.

WRONG! You can put it on USB and OPL will read it from there!!!

I appreciate your criticism, if I'm wrong I beg you to correct me with arguments.
Let's see if I understand correctly, are you saying that OPL can display applications and launch them without a "conf_apps.cfg" file?

@TnA

Maybe you mean putting the "conf_apps.cfg" file on the same usb memory, if so at least it never worked for me.

In the kindest way, I would appreciate it if you were more detailed in your responses, firstly to avoid ambiguities that lead me to "guess" and secondly because the person we are responding to does not know much about the subject.

I invite you to put yourself in his place.
so we can refer to him without so much technicality, thank you.

@TnA

Despite not having success in the past, I kept trying the method you speak of and in the end I managed to get it to work, I was doing it wrong, I had a directory error.

I accept and recognize that I was wrong, thanks for your contribution and support.

@Zezokamd

Friend, the answer @TnA gave is the solution, after all "two heads are better than one" to help you you need to download the application "Ulaunchelf" in "elf " format first.

let me know when you have it.

Okay but do I need a new memory card? As the one I have is almost full. And is there any way to backup my saves. If I have to delete them? Thank you all for your help

@Zezokamd You can backup your saves via LaunchELF. Filebrowser --> mc0 --> "R1" --> copy --> go to "mass" (USB) --> "R1" --> Psupaste... Same procedure in reverse to get it back on MC.

@gamerman 5000 I merged your posts.

There is also the "title.cfg"-method with per App cfg.

Don't worry about that for the moment, the first and most important thing is that you have the "Ulaunchelf" application and don't touch anything on the "memory card".

You don't need a new "memory card" because you will do everything from a USB device and you will work with the memory card you already have.

I merged your posts.

thanks, much better

Do you know where there is a tutorial about it?

Okay so I got ulaunchelf to work from the usb. How do I update opl? And what is the difference between mcpaste and psupaste for backing up my saves?

@TnA @gamerman 5000
sorry for the repeated replies, I don't know how to remove them. So I backed up all of the saves on my memory card using psupaste. does that mean I can remove them from my memory card safely?

I see that you have advanced the work.
good for you.

To update OPL first download it from here:

I recommend version 1.1.0 which is the last stable update.

Then you must rename the new OPL as you have it on your memory card (navigate through your memory card with the help of Ulaunchelf, mc0 or mc1 depending on the port in which you have it connected and check how it is named, same folder name, same name of the executable with extension elf) then simply replace it and you will have your updated OPL.

Be very careful with this step, it is important that you observe how you have saved OPL in the memory card before overwriting it.

And what is the difference between mcpaste and psupaste for backing up my saves?

Actually I have never used those functions, I just copy and paste the save folders on the USB to backup and you already have your backup, let's see if someone who has used them can help you with that.

Would you guys mind learning what an Edit-Button is and how to use them?

Stop these moronic multi-posts. This is not a chat!

Edit: I see... Sending error this time.

And what is the difference between mcpaste and psupaste
PSU uses containers.

Replace the ELF with the same name........ Why do we have to repeat ourself?

Yes, you can... Don't remove your exploit...
sorry for the repeated replies, I don't know how to remove them.
I see a Delete and Edit-Button.

@TnA
There are more polite ways to ask for things, my friend, I am surprised by the lack of patience and education for someone who has the title of "moderator", you will understand that not all of us have the same time and experience as you using a forum.
The boy already apologized, then I don't see the problem.

Let's try to create a more pleasant and professional environment in this community.

Lack of patience? I already wrote it before.........
Lack of education? I think you are lacking INTELLIGENCE (When "education" is a factor for you, rather than a thinking mind.), beside the fact that I went to University. The Technical University of my City, which has a very good name worldwide and is known for things like biologically implantable super-capacitors and so on... I figure (I am actually quite confident.), that my education far exceeds yours and you even MAKING a claim that you can in no way substantiate, proves that you are unaware of the scientific method and how to apply it.

This was SOLELY a flawed try to belittle me and what I wrote.

Pleasent would be, if you guys would stop double posting and I noticed that he didn't do it intentionally this time... I placed an obvious "Edit" directly afterwards.
