PS3 How to properly format internal HDD? Rebug 4.84.2 DEX. Help, please

Hi, dear friends. Just as the title says, I'd like to know how to format my PS3's internal HDD because I've been having issues due to some experimenting with stores, plugins (ps3xpad) and stuff because I bought this PS3 like 2 months ago and it already came with 4.85 Ferrox on it and some saves and such so I decided to go DEX in order tu fully use ps3xpad.

So, it's currently con 4.84.2 DEX Rebug and I'd like to stay DEX and the same firmware version but whipe out everything in the HDD. I think too many installs of stores, plugins and such have bugged my PS3 or something. If I format it, CFW will be deleted? I'll go OFW once formatting process finishes? Do I have to do it via Recover Mode or via XMB (full format)? Is Dev_flash partition completely deleted after formatting?

Hope you guys can help me. I don't care about saves, games, any data at all. I just want a new fresh CFW install.

PS: Forgot to mention. My console is a 2501B Slim 320gb HDD.

If You only want clean user data on the HDD and NOR, then use recovery menu to wipe out all contents. There is no need to format HDD, and if You will do this outside PS3, then You will need to prepare any DEX fw (like i.e Rebug D-Rex) on USB to reinstall fw.

So I can connect the HDD to the PC and format it like any regular HDD, right? And have Rebug 4.84.2 DEX update ready in a USB stick to reinstall it, right? Will I have any other issue if I do this? Like need to downgrade or brick my console? I've never done this before.

I think I can use this oportunity to upgrade to 1TB HDD (or SSD, I don't know). So what if I put a new HDD 1TB, what do I need to do? That's something I'd like to know as well.

Thanks for your reply, sir.

Do not go back to OFW. I suggest formatting the HDD on PC first then put it back and put reinstall the DEX FW you want.
No, of course I wouldn't go OFW at atll. I thought that the system would force me to go OFW if I formatted the HDD, lol. I'm glad it won't happen and it'll remain DEX :3

In theory yes, but if You have set fw version i.e 9.99 and have not QA set, You will have serious problems to install any fw. I recommend strongly to go back to CEX as You won't get any benefit from DEX if You are not developer (or game cheater who wants his IDPS to be stole by game mods ;p).

If You format HDD (You need get rid first 512 bytes to be stopped to be recognize by PS3), she will force You to install any firmware in version equal or higher that is installed. It can be OFW if You want hurt itself or CFW.

To add to what Berion rightly said about DEX mode, you should also consider that if anything happens with your system, recovery steps are usually ALWAYS better done in CEX mode as there are always more options available to get out of sticky situations.
