Got myself 2 x very beaten up CECHC04 PlayStation 3 consoles today for 20€. One had the famous YLOD and the other would read everything except PS3 games. So I began with the YLOD console, tried a reflow, applied new thermal paste, etc. but it only solved it to the level where it's a GLOD and not a YLOD. My guess is I basically fried one of the chips because for the first time I had the heat gun on 400C instead of 300. I was a little bit in a hurry and that's why I made this mistake.
Then I moved on to the next one and cleaned the laser, and it was working perfectly fine after. I still wanted to apply new MX-4 to both chips so I started cleaning up the console and disassembling it, until this happened:
Funny, how in my previous thread "The real zombie CECHC04" I stated that I will never again delid any console, and all of a sudden it happens automatically. Anyways I applied new paste onto the RSX die and the 4 RAM chips too and on both IHS and gave the console a deep clean so I'm happy with this bargain. The other one will serve as parts, maybe gonna put the chrome trim onto my main CECHH04 console as I love that much more than the matte finish, somebody did that before maybe and tell me if it's possible?
Long story short, nothing interesting to see here, I just thought I would share this miracle with you guys, I didn't believe what happened at first.
