there's a "trim" option for image assets in android studio, so I was able to build both sonic 1 and 2 using the official icons. I increased the image size to 110% for each or else the background image appeared beneath sonic's legs. I got it to look perfect for sonic 1; sonic 2, is somewhat off, but it looks better, especially if you try to extract the apk. both look far better then. all four of these are from the decomps. they looks really good, even when you try to extract the apks:
