PS3 I May Have Killed My PS3 D:

Distress

Forum Noob
So I disassembled my ps3 to put new thermal paste on the chips since it was running idle at 65C on which I reassemble for what I found to be mostly correct however once I got to the disc drive is when my issue had started to occur. I wanted to test the system so I didn't reassemble it entirely however It does boot but my disc drive doesn't seem to want to read discs and the PS3 freezes when trying to run mulitman. So with me continuously reseating the ribbon cable the latch broke on the board and the ribbon cable it self became unusable so I ordered one on ebay which the disc drive works in terms of injecting and ejecting but still doesn't read the discs and I'm still not able to use multiman. Would anyone know any soultion to this? I really just wanna back up games to my PC at this point and get a new PS3 system at some point if there isn't way to entirely fix it. I should also mention my I have a fat PS3 the has partial PS2 capability

The black plastic that holds the flex into the mobo always loose, you just have to put it in the correct place and make a little bit of pressure with the flex in place. That'll do.

I tried tape and that didn't seem to work like that plastic is off the board now the connector is what remains. I still have the plastic part I wonder if taping it with the ribbon cable connected will work

Yes, it should work if you insert the broken "latch" you mentioned in his position, but for that the latch needs to be in a single piece, if is broken at half better try the method i mentioned with plastic sheets

The point is you need to insert something together with the ribbon cable, this way the ribbon cable is going to be "pushed" in the direction of the pins (and the pins will be a bit bent, are designed for it, they can move)

Alright the Disc drive works although it keeps trying to eject a disc from the system regardless I can Access multiman. However I can't seem to access ftp from winscp because it keeps saying access forbidden which I've never have had this issue before I doubt it still the ribbon cable

Well, the fact you can run multiman (and update firmware normally) means you fixed the broken latch of the BD connector
That connector have many pins and it could happen that one (or few) of them are not doing a correct contact with the ribbon cable and are causing the "eject" problem. Im just speculating, i dont really know if this could happen... but by now i think is better to forget about that connector and consider that has been fixed completly

So... the eject problem could be some mechanical problem related with the gears, levers, etc... i guess you opened the BD drive, if i was you i would dissassemble it again to review it

The FTP problem doesnt seems to be related, maybe is because you changed the network settings in the PS3 XMB ?

I actually didn't open the BD drive I thought it could some sorta eject screw not in however I screwed everything back in (for the most part). I did however rebuild that data base twice because it seemed to work for some people on youtube so I figured it was worth a shot which both times it came with some random corrupted data idk if that's related. I do remember myself pressing a controller combo on the XMB which cleared something which I don't quite recall what it was called but on top of that I can't seem to use those combos (like checking the consoles temps etc) after rebuilding the data base. I also tried wireless and still no dice I'm thinking maybe changing out the IP address for something else may do the trick but it makes an entire list of things than just messing with IP address so it comes out as an error although I can probably look online for some generic values to put in there so it may work.

that was webman. run the installer icon while holding down L1 again untill reboot.

Alright that works again however still having FTP issues. I even checked my router and FTP is enabled on there. I also did some digging and this could've been caused by a windows update however I have no way of knowing that nor I don't know what port the PS3 is is using for me to enable it in windows defender as one solution stated it working for the specific error

Seems to be different problems

The rebuild database is something good to do eventually, most of the times is not needed because the database updates itself constantly, the only reason to do it is if at some point you see some "content" icons damaged (in sony slang it means most of the stuff you can display to XMB)
It doesnt solves other problems anyway... so if you are having oter bigger problems rebuilding the database is not going to help you

The other thing you could do for hdd manteinance is the option named restore filesystem, this keeps the hdd filesystems healthy, is good to use it from time to time, if at some point it returns an error it means you have important problems in the hdd
But if you pass the "restore filesystem" process successfully (lets say 2 or 3 times consecutivelly for the sake of it) it means the hdd is mostly fine

The FTP problems and configuration depends of your setup, are you using wired network ?... your PS3 is directly connected with the router or with the PC ?

Yes my PS3 is on wired connection to the router and FTP is enabled on router itself. I've also tried different ethernet ports and that doesn't seem to work.
I'll try HDD maintenance once I can backup my stuff at least. I really should've done that before attempting doing a repair like this just in case there is something wrong with the HDD. I also put a 1TB drive in there just to have room for all my backups so I know it's not stock HDD which probably would cause a lot of problems by now with how old they're.
