So I have a CHCHC04 which had an issue with the blu-ray drive. Once I inserted a disc, the spinning disc symbol would appear in the XMB but the game would not launch.
So I google it and decided that most likely it was a faulty lens. I have a dead CECHG03 for parts and decided to swap the drive and keep the daughter board from the CECHC.
I started doing this and ran into a problem with the very small 2 pin power connector. It was stuck.
I tried getting it out the best I could with a pair of tweezers but the 2 wires ended up breaking so that rendered the CECHC drive dead. I was left with just the daughterboard of the CECHC.
I then started doing the same operation on the donor CECHG drive. There was no way of getting the 2 pin connector out again, so I used a small amount of WD40 which after some wiggling allowed me to pull it out, but a little bit deformed. I fear that even if I let it dry before plugging it in, the WD40 may have caused a short somehow.
After reattaching the donner (CECHG) drive to the daughter (CECHC) board I plugged the unit in the PS3 and booted it.
Now it seems the drive does not get any power at all. The blue LED does not flash at all anymore.
I checked the power pin for the drive with the multimeter and it puts out the standard 5 and 12V.
When I press the disc eject button the console beeps 3 times.
On all the videos and threads I have seen the blue LED flashes, mine doesn't even do that.
What could have gone wrong?
The CECHC and CECHG drives should be compatible with each other and I don't think I need to re-pair the daughterboard since I use the original one.
The console is running on 4.91 not modded
The donor CECGH was also on 4.91 not modded.
The CMOS batter on the CECHC may be dead since it does not remember the date on each boot.
I logged on BGToolset to see if there are any errors regarding this issues and posted all the error logs. There does not seem to be anything related it it. After doing some googling it appears that the 2 error codes are mostly affiliated with improper shutdowns and it checks out since this console has a very big number of improper shutdowns.
I will post a picture of how the 2 pin connector looks now.
I tried the connector cables from the CECHG just in case but the result the is the same.
