PS3 [IDEA] Enabling Individual Gameboots for each emulator/system/homebrew

@DeViL303 is it possible make the first frame of PS3 animation larger?

In the case of the PS3 logo, it starts with a small image that grows.
But there are some times when the animation doesn't work and the logo is displayed smaller than it should.

NOTE for the testers: The latest update of webMAN MOD has support for 9 additional Retro gameboots.
The custom_render_plugin.rco stil doesn't include these animations and the console can freeze if one of these game types are launched and a custom rco larger than 50KB is installed in dev_flash.

NOTE2: The recent updates have the shortcut path "/res" that goes directly to /dev_blind/vsh/resource
And "/tmp" goes directly to /dev_hdd0/tmp. These shortcuts will save you a few keystrokes :)

This one also includes a higher resolution PS3 logo with a slightly different fade out when it squashes to nothing. not sure if people will like it. Let me know, I can change it if required. Also it has the new PSP start up style gameboot shown in my last post.

And to stop any freezing on the latest webMAN MOD is has placeholders added for the 9 additional retro gameboots that aldo just added support for. For now these just show the same as the normal ROM gameboot but I am working on individual ones for those too.

Let me know what ye think.

Edit. Here is v1.05, now has the ROM logo for all of the 9 new retro gameboots. just as place holders to stop freezing on the latest wMM. It also has new sounds added for 6, with the rom sound duplicated for the rest. So basically it supports the 9 new gameboots, but its still a work in progress.

EDIT 2: Removed the v1.05 zip, see further on in the thread for the latest version.

In the process of adding the retro gameboots now. It will probably take me a day or 2 to complete.

This is what the SNES one looks like so far.

BTW @aldostools: I notice some slightly different behaviour depending what type of game is mounted. PSP ISOs do not jump back out to the root of the game category like other ISOs do, and also ROMs always autoboot even though I have auto start disabled in wMM setup.

The new gameboots look amazing. Great job!

The PSP behaves different because it is not launched from a disc icon like the other ISOs.
It requires the PSP Launcher. In /setup.ps3 there is an option to include the launcher inside the PSP folder.
It is the first option in the folder. When you mount a PSP game it jumps automatically to the first option and enter to the PSP Launcher menu. There you have the option to select one of the launchers for PSP Minis or PSP Remasters.

The ROMS tries to emulate the PKG games launching RetroArch directly from /app_home.
If you want to stop the automatic start, hold down the CIRCLE button for a few seconds and you will stay in XMB.

Ok, I understand.

BTW, I figured out if you make the ROM Launcher category SF in the SFO, then it is hidden from the XMB normally, but it can still be mounted to app home when its required. ;)

Great job, I really like the way it is, I just can't make it work at HEN. Always
What do I try, the console turns off, How do I get it to work? Sorry for my English...

You need webMAN MOD, Make sure you get the latest version from github. Then put the rco from the zip on flash in the dev_rewrite/vsh/resource/ folder.

Put the other files inside dev_hdd0/tmp/gameboot/ including the sprx. That's it. When you mount games with webMAN it will show you the individual gameboot animations.

DO NOT PUT THE SPRX ON FLASH IF YOU ARE HEN. THE SPRX MUST GO ON HDD.

Note: On HEN it will not work fully for the first game you mount. Only the logo will show the first time, then after the XMB has been reloaded once then it should work fully for any further games you mount.

Note you can reload the XMB after enabling HEN by:
  • Booting any app or game and then exiting it.
  • Entering and then exiting Remote play
  • Logging your local out in the user category and then logging back in
  • Running the Reload XMB application
Once that is done you will get the full gameboot experience.

Thanks for answering, do all the steps, but when I run anything in the xmb, webman games or installed games or any homebrew the console turns off and I have to press the power button twice to make them work again
It really sounds like you have put the sprx on flash, If you put that modified sprx on your flash then it will cause a system panic when it gets called.

If you did not put the sprx on flash then I do not know what that could be tbh. I do not use HEN really so can't really help.

Worst case reinstalling HFW and then HEN will fix your issue.

All I can say is to double check everything, make sure you have downloaded the latest wMM pkg and installed and ran the installer. Also make sure you have the latest version of the mod (v1.05).

@DeViL303 Maybe you're aware of this: In Ultimate Toolbox the option that disables the blur effect disables removes the game boots.
Yeah, this is the reason I am hesitant to include rcos in the Toolbox in general, all these mods overwrite each other.

I guess I will remove that blur option in the next toolbox, and apply the no blur patch in the gameboot mod rco instead.

I didn't manage to make it work, I go on to describe everything I did.

1 - Reinstall HFW.
2 - Reinstall HEN.
3 - Install latest version of webman mod.

I did not install ultimate toolbox.

The problem persists, the console shuts down when executing anything in the xmb.

Without the game_ext_plugin.sprx in the gameboot folder all logos are shown are sound and without effects, when placing the sprx again. the error returns. therefore there is something that is not supported by HEN in the sprx. Sorry for the writing, I'm from a mobile phone.

Ok, I guess this does not work on HEN then. Sorry about that. I recommend getting a CFW compatible PS3, they are getting cheaper and cheaper. I got one for 30euro today from a local ad.

Anyway, thanks for doing so much for our PS3. It's a shame I can't use this in HEN but keep it up .. it's wonderful that they continue to bring this console to life ..

How can I get the ROMS section in the WebmanMod menu? :o I always use retro arch to launch them.

DO I have to install the gameboot in dev_flash or does WMmod load it from any location from drive? I read about the new Webmanmod feature for new gameboots but can't find any infos how it works.

In webMAN MOD setup page you need to enable ROMs, its not enabled by default.

Then you need to put your ROMs inside subfolders like this example dev_hdd0/ROMS/SNES/xxxxx.xxx

The gameboots are inside the custom_render_plugin.rco included in the zip attached to post #63 above. Put that rco file in dev_blind/vsh/resource/

Then put the other files from the zip inside dev_hdd0/tmp/gameboot/

Note: You still need Retroarch installed, wMM just mounts the ROMS and autoboots them.

I forget to tell you, but your sprx is signed with 4xx keys, need to be 3.55 or below to work on HEN. ( i noticed it in the first test build)

Thats why his console got a kernel panic.
