Hi there, I'm a kind of a noob in regards to ps3 mods, I just need a clarification really, so I go straight to the point.

I have installed evilnat CEX CFW on my CECHB00 fat ps3 and I was wondering if I could install the DEX version to convert it to a full DEX console or if it will brick or something.

Thank you.

you can convert cex2dex.
as i remember i converted from cex to dex and from dex to decr, causing total brick, for god sake i did good NOR flash dump from 4.75 or 4.78 coreos version

Install Evilnat 4.90 PEX.

From Network > CFW Tools menu you will be able to switch from CEX to DEX and vice versa. You have to dump ERK first; the option is also available in the same menu.

Hi guys, thank you for your replies :)

NiQ, is there any specific reason why I shouldn't install DEX? Thank you!

The NAND based systems leave not much room for error as unlike NOR systems you can't wipe the drive and reinstall. Or he could have literally meant not a DEC OFW but the system won't allow that. There is a small brick risk if you suss it up and TBH there isn't really a need for DEX especially with the latest PEX firmware. You can do literally 98% of the things a DEX can with CEX/PEX firmware. I have the same CECHB system myself and I treasure it but I'm not a developer or using cheat engines/plugins so I have no use for it.

Problem is I can't play my ps2 PAL discs on it as it's set on NTSC.
Is there any workaround for that? I thought maybe having a full DEX software would give me the option to change region.
Thanks

So that won't fix your issue. If your CFW is CEX/DEX/PEX etc with Cobra enabled you can run them just fine. What firmware are you on now? Disc or ripping the images? If images how are you trying to launch them? IRISMAN, MmCM webMAN etc. Also are you sure DVD is fully working? If you have a shoddy laser it can fail but BD can still work fine.

Edit

You can also try QA flashing your system and enable fake other region. I know we can launch NTSC-J PS2 disc on my CECHB this way. No PAL PS2 games to test but I do know it allowed me to play Hell Night PAL PS2 game I have.

I'm pretty sure that the laser is still good. I'm trying to play an original pal game (GTA Vice City) it starts, I can see the PlayStation logo and then it goes blank. I've converted my system to Dex, enabled the QA but into the developer settings I can't see any options to change the region.

Oh and I'm on evilnat 4.89.3

AFAIK dex can not play ps2. there is some bug (even if you select dex in ps2 classics gui when converting).

i would check the rip. (i recall that multiman did not rip correctly, but whatever pc program i used did.)

Oh, my mistake, I didn't rip it, I thought I could play straight from the original disc

Alright, so as soon as I get home, I will convert it back to CEX and I'll try to play the disc. Then I'll post the result. Thank you so much for the clarifications (we went a bit off topic here) thanks again!
