PS3 Is it possible to recover data from hard drive after RSX swap or Frankenstein mod?

I have a fat PS3 (CECHE) that got the YLOD a while back. Syscon shows error codes 3034 and 4412, so it appears to be a BGA failure. It has never been modded and has the official firmware, therefore the EID_ROOT_KEY was never dumped.

I understand that this key is tied to the CELL processor, so if that has gone bad, then there's likely nothing to be done.

However, if it is the RSX that has failed, would a like-for-like RSX swap or a Frankenstein mod enable the data to be recoverable from the hard drive?

Tide to Cell and NAND/NOR Flash because on flash is the key but binary with it is encrypted probably by CPU. I'm not an hardware expert but if RSX replacement needs any of those two too, then You are doomed. If not, You will be able to decrypt drive after hacking console.

In assumption You already have working PS3 again:
  • If fw was 3.55 or older, You can install CFW from USB like any OFW.
  • If fw was newer, install OFW 4.90, then hack it via bgtoolset, then install CFW from USB.
