Is it risky to log in to PSN with CFW?

Do I risk getting my console banned if I log in? What implications does that have? I will probably only play single player games, but want trophies and such.

What if I try multiplayer for some game?

Thank you, but what would be considered conspicuous? Is running games from internal hdd/ssd conspicuous :) ?

not necessarily, but you're still taking a risk if they're backups or you're using hen/cfw. I mean something like cheating or using homebrew. I think one of the cobra updates prevents using homebrew while online, but that's cfw (don't know about hen).

edit: use something like psn patch if you can, the plugin specifically (open psn patch, then I think it's you press select to get into psn patch toolbox; from there, you can install the plugin). I don't know if it works for hen though. hen might work with wmm to disable syscalls and delete history. it won't 100% mitigate the chance of getting banned, but it will make your system look like as official as possible. psn patch's readme even suggests that if you're worried to try opening psn patch after disabling syscalls. it should error. mount your game before signing in.

First of all, I thank you for your help and I apologize for not knowing all the terms. Is WMM homebrew? I have absolutely no intention of cheating even in single-players (which is most probably the only thing I'll ever play).. cheating no longer appeals to me, I want things to be fair, but I used to cheat a lot (in single-players) back when I was a kid.

I'd really love to go for CFW, but since it seems the new tools are still in testing phase, I can't and I'm going restless as I've been waiting for a few days now, which is why I thought I'd try HEN until the tools release.

Regarding the PSN patch, is it this one (seemingly not update for a few years now?) https://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=244 ? Are there no new updates?

Thank you so much! I had added this as an edit to my previous post, but since you replied so fast:

I read somewhere (maybe on Reddit on some topic about PSN patch) that (EDIT: as a precaution) I should mount the game using WMM and then exit WMM and only then connect to PSN.. is this really necessary? Would I have to do it every time I start the console? I'm asking since I'll most probably forget these steps or they'll become annoying after a while and I'd like to just keep WMM on.

well, from what I remember, you need to mount the game first, because you'll be disabling syscalls. the game won't be mountable once that's done. I think there may be a new cobra version that allows reenabling syscalls, but I may be misremembering. before that, you had to restart the system to reenable them.

as long as you don't cheat or use homebrew while online, you'll probably be fine. however, I was using psn patch and I don't game online and I was still banned. that's why I don't sign in at all. there's no telling what sony can or can't see. habib mentioned that sony could theoretically even see if you've changed your idps. however, I don't think sony can see much personally, because they thought the ps3 was unhackable, so they didn't take any precautions with psn. that's how you got fuckpsn (signing in with an idps of all 0s) and adding funds to your wallet. both things have been patched, but obviously sony was caught off guard.

edit: also, bits got banned for simply downloading crunchy roll. he was using precautions like me, and we both got our ban email on the same day. he used the idps of his 3xxx system on the one that was banned. he was able to sign in again, but the minverchk now changed the software version that could be installed. I think it's the 8th byte of the idps that determines base firmware, but I don't know if anyone is sure if that's what actually determines this or not.

edit 2: that's why I suggest you put your account emails on your phone. make a separate one for the ps3, vita/pstv, and ps4. I didn't do that when I got banned, so it took me several years to get everything back up and running. I did my ps4 finally about a few months ago. anyway, this will allow you to keep track if you ever get banned. they'll send an email if you do within about 7-10 days of the flagging.

Thank you, @Agoni212 and @pinky ! I am unsure how to proceed, but if I may ask, could I at least get updates for a backup (copy of a game I have the blu-ray of, but on my internal HDD (actually SSD))? I am really an update freak.. this is probably the reason I had to get the 4.87 update when I saw it and now can't get a CFW :(. Would it be relatively safe to mount the backup using MultiMan, deactivate MultiMan and log in to PSN (is that required?) to get the update? Would I still need PSN Patch and disabling syscalls and whatnot for this?

you should use some way to disable syscalls or delete history. it's probably unlikely you'll be banned for hen, but there's no telling really.

you do not have to log in to psn to update a game :)
