PS3 Jailbreak advice

I have the old backwards compatible ps3 fat with the 4usbs (lucky me)
I jailbroke it years ago and have had it packed away for years.
it's currently on 4.84 CEX Cobra 8.01
I want to know what I should do to update to a newer jailbreak/version. If that's necessary. Obviously it has a tiny hdd and so I have an external that I have tried all night to get to work using web man and following tutorials but they all were using a different jailbreak and I'm on cobra

any help would be tremendously appreciated. Unfortunately I have forgotten everything I used to know about jailbreaking.should I just start again fresh and if so how would I go about that?

Nothing but another CFW pup on USB and install it.

If you are not aware, remember to do below things (not related to updating CFW; what each is for, you can find by using search field on forum ;]):

• make NAND flash dump
• dump ERK
• dump IDPS
• copy xRegistry.sys
• set QA flag

Thank you so much for your reply, so I must take all those steps before doing anything new? Which cfw would you recommend I go to? And I don't need to delete anything literally just put another cfw update onto my usb and update?

You don't need to change CFW in the first place. You will gain nothing from it except some cool features in new xai_plugin (like eg. disc images decryption) or newer Cobra (auto unlocking C00 games). If you want it, Evilnat 4.91 CEX or PEX.

Would be wise to do that ASAP, to have rescue solutions at hand. Nothing mandatory, just handy.
