PS3 Kmeaw CFW 3.55

Hello all,

In the year 2009-2010 my parents gave me a PlayStation 3 Slim as present. A couple of years I didn't used this PlayStation (till 2012 I guess) and when I opened it up, I was able to update it to OF 3.55 en from there to Kmeaw CFW 3.55. Since then again I didn't make use of this PlayStation. Now I am considering using the PlayStation again, but I have a couple of questions because I am not aware of the CFW developments of this time:

1. - Which CFW should I update?
2. - Is it possible to update to a recent CFW from the Kmeaw CFW 3.55 which is now on my PlayStation?

Thanks in advance!

For now use Rebug 4.85 lite. Ferrox 4.85 has a bug and can not play ps2 games (on my two different consoles)
About SPY 4.85 i can not say nothing as im not using it.

i've heard about this ps2 bug a lot of times, but i don't see it myself using ferrox 4.85

TBH i didn't extendedly tried out the backwards compatibility, meaning playing more than 15-20 mins, but all my backups load perfectly, either using config files, or natively supported.

Speaking for thosegames that can actually load on ps3

I speak for games that obviously work. I had ferrox 4.84 which work flawless.then i updated to ferrox 4.85 and ps2 stopped working. Reinstall with REBUG 4.85 lite and ps2 works again. And that has happened on two consoles i own. Slim and fat.

that's weird.. i had problem only for games that used config files with the 4.84 ferrox version.. but are solved in 4.85.. Sounds really weird.

Thanks, I will use Rebug 4.85.1 Lite. Is it possible to load directly PS1 and PS2 games from this CFW without additional homebrew software?

I have one more question. On the Rebug website when you go to the Rebug Lite version, they say "INSTALL ON CEX PS3 SYSTEM".

But when I check the version of my CFW, I can't see whether my CFW is CEX or DEX. How can I find this out?

You are on CEX, which is consumer/retail firmware. DEX is developer/debug firmware, which would only be present if your PS3 was a debug unit, or if it had previously been converted using Rebug Toolbox.

In short, you would definitely know if you were on DEX because Rebug Lite would fail to install if your console wasn't on CEX firmware.

In other words: You will not brick console by installing i.e DEX fw on CEX console because *.pup will be rejected before even unpacking.

If You don't need exclusive debug features (like i.e Trophies lock/unlock or Fake Save Data Owner) stick to Lite which in current version, have newest Cobra which i.e (I'm not sure about this) automatically unlock "C00 games" (it is handy if You don't want mess with licenses and valid act.dat).

Yes, I should have made this more clear. You would get an error code if trying to install, the same way you would if you tried installing CFW on OFW without the exploit being applied.

Hi you guys, today I succesfully updated my PS3 to Rebug 4.85.1 Lite. Thanks for all the help. Now I am going to explore the possibilities. :)

If someone knows a package which contains all the emulators available for the PS3 (like SNES, N64, etc), I would like to hear it. :)

RetroArch is what you're looking for. It's the frontend for Libretro, which is comprised of many cores or engines for the different emulators. N64 is not emulated on the PS3, however, and I don't think it will be any time soon due to the technical hurdles that would need to be overcome.
