WebMAN LaunchPad (webMAN MOD Add-On -Unofficial)

PS3 LaunchPad (Unofficial addon for webMAN MOD) v0.17

@Berion: I wonder can anything be done with the background image for the Launchpad? I thought about it before but its same background used when just on the item as when you enter it, so im not sure. The background is located at dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/icon/cinfo-bg-whatsnew.jpg.

It looks fairly good with a plain black background too. Another option is to delete the background and then you can still see the XMB/wave while on/in the Launchpad.

Does anyone know where these red square icons are located in the FW?
mQLVGHC.png
I want to blank them out as they don't match the other items and they only appear when its loading. I remember seeing them somewhere..

EDIT: found them, in the wboard.rco of course.

Now I another problem, I cant remember the command for gimconv to convert the pngs correctly. rcomage wont do it correctly with the default settings.

Your talent don't cease to amaze me!!!! These icons are outstanding!!!

Thanks. :)

For the psp icon I added a bit of more contrast to the UMD ;)

Yeah, but yesterday was 4 am. when I updating preview so didn't update the package. :D In current version UMD disc is darker and don't shine to much (as this is not this side of disc lol).

@DeViL303 IMO better is without this background (and what? JPG? Seriously Sony?).

Could You post here syntax from doc/help parram? Maybe they are 8bit. Sony often mixing 24/32bit and 8bit in their GUIs without any good reason... In example, on Vita most important thing - the background - must be in 8bit (hello Sony! we are in 2016 year, not in 1990... and You are mounted OLED display to players watch themes in 256 colors).

Could You also make screenshot from current launchpad? I haven't any games besides few digital for PS3 installed on HDD. And how can I test this myself? I have webMAN MOD v1.45.00 Full. Should I just install 1.45.01 and then LaunchPAD? Will this replace WebMAN MOD menu or only What's New menu?

I know, its a shame its a jpg, I have tried modifying the wboard sprx so that it links to a PNG instead as they are used in other places but it just soft bricks when I move onto the whats new item and it tries to load.

I can replace it with a 0 bytes jpg (or delete it) and then the wave or background is visible.

I got sorted with adding correct images to rcos, I found this reply to me here by sandungas on google where he explained the command needed for gimconv.

This command has worked for all icons I have tried it on so far:
Code:
gimconv.exe myimage.png -o myimage.gim --format_style psp --format_endian big --image_format dxt5

So now I have blanked out those ugly "timeout" red squares, and I have got rid of the little "new" icon on the placeholder that was annoying me. Also each of these mods is saving a bit more RAM for Launchpad as I am replacing all these images with a 1x1 pixel gim file. And 3 were 350KB, so that 1MB.

Could You also make screenshot from current launchpad?

I will post some screenshots soon. Im not sure about having no background, It would be cool if you tested yourself without it, and with a few different colours and let me know what you think, you have a better eye.

And how can I test this myself? I have webMAN MOD v1.45.00 Full. Should I just install 1.45.01 and then LaunchPAD?

If you install Launchpad v0.12 first and then the latest webMAN mod 1.45.01 FULL then you will have all the new icons. If you do it the other way around some icons will be overwritten. I will be releasing 0.13 soon to fix this issue.

Will this replace WebMAN MOD menu or only What's New menu?

It will only effect the whats new item, it will get moved to the game category and renamed to Webman Launchpad. So you will have webman launchpad above webman games on the XMB.

I like the current gray background :) IMO it matches very well with your new icons.

Leaving the original XMB background visible (by removing the jpg) could cause distraction, specially when animated themes are installed.

---

When webMAN MOD Full edition scans the content at start up (or pressing SELECT+L3), it generates the XML files for both XMB menus: "webMAN Games" menu and for What's New menu (aka LaunchPad). It actually scans twice.

The generation of /dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_launchpad.xml can be disabled on /setup.ps3 adding a check mark to the option "LaunchPad.xml", that is next to the label "Disable content scan on startup & ".

I suggest you to use the latest build 1.45.01 available at github.
It installs the new icons and generates the xml to use them.

You can edit /dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_launchpad.xml, press triangle on What's New icon and select 'Clear Cache' to test your new icons.

@aldostools: Don't want to making work for you, but an Idea for future wm_launchpad.xml generation - adding the local digital games using the psgm play command and linking to their ICON0.PNGs would be possible in theory? They also boot without any browser opening so its kind of nice. Maybe they could be shown underneath the disc items. Also separating the disc games by genre might be better..Im not sure what people would prefer.

@aldostools Sorry for all that silly questions, I just feel a little confused and lost with all that XML maze. ;p Yet, still I don't understand connections between: WebMAN Mod, XMBM+, XMPD and LP. If all of them are connected somehow (as I thinking) should we make one installer to contain them all and during installation user would choosing which one he want?

Rev-4 in attachment. I removed glass effect as it is inconsistent with covers and have conflict with bottom bar with symbol.

IMO better is without any background just the icons, but if You insist, we should replace it for something more darker than current one.
What is resolution of this file? 1920x1080 or less? It's the same also for SD resolution or there are two different?

BTW: I still remember about Your answer to me related to webMAN Mod in on of the older topic. I don't ignoring it, I just didn't make some things check and report. I hate when I helping to someone and he in one moment disappear, so I just letting You know to not feel ignored. I remember.

Group by genre? Or do you mean by console type like in webMAN Games menu?

If you prepare a POC, I could test it and see what I can do to automate it (if I get the free time).

I believe it's ok as it is now... IMO having the games grouped exactly like webMAN Games would be somehow redundant.

webMAN MOD can work independently. The others are add-ons that require webMAN MOD at different levels.

XMBM+ has some functions that can work without webMAN, but XMPD and LP require webMAN MOD Full edition to work.

XMPD now is a module of XMBM+. As its content is updated often, only that module is updated when downloaded from XMB.

LP is an optional addon (we expect that Rebug adopt it in future releases as a standard feature). webMAN MOD Full edition can update it automatically. LP stores some icons in XMBM+ resource folder.

So the 4 applications are completely connected.

I've updated the pkg at Github with the new icons Rev-4.

The dimensions are 640x480 for SD and 1920x1080 for HD. These are the original files included in Rebug. SD is a bit darker.

Yeah sorry I meant by System type not genre, just so that PSP games are not mixed in with PS3 games for example and would come up underneath them instead, But yeah you are right its fine the way it is now.

There are 2 backgrounds. one is 1920x1080, the other one 640x480 is for SD, located @ dev_flash\vsh\resource\explore\icon\cinfo-bgsd-whatsnew.jpg . Try black or close to it and see what you think. BTW this also effects the "channels" background.

EDIT: I have v0.13 ready but I will wait and see what you say about the background colour.

Changes so far are:
  • Added Berions icons for the 3 default functions available on install.
  • Removed red "timeout" loading squares via rco edit.
  • Removed "new" icon on place holder via rco edit.
  • Changed background to..??
@aldostools: should we maybe start using the webman icons folder or another folder in tmp for Launchpad icons, or we can keep using the XMBMANPLS folder. I don't mind, just a suggestion to separate Launchpad from XMBM+ completely.

I think the bigger question is why don't you have a PS3?

While you are here. remember that idea/image you had for separating launchpad games by system with headers, I can't find the image but that was cool, it is the kind of thing I'm talking about. do you still have the image or have launchpad set up like that on your ps3?

Why not simply release 0.13 (to solve the conflict with icons) and later release 0.14 if you decide to use a new background?

Here are darker versions (almost black)

http://aldostools.org/temp/test/cinfo-bg-whatsnew.jpg

The icon_lp_* are in webman folder because I just change 2 letter in the path of icon_wm_* :)

I use XMBMANPLS as repository of the rest of the images. If the images are showing, I think it doesn't matter where they are located.

I prefer not create a new folder... there are too many already.

Answering an old question:
The local images work because I access the images through http like this: http://127.0.0.1/path/cover.jpg
In your test, you probably only tried /path/cover.jpg as the url.

I haven't been on PS3 in a while but I believe they're still being hosted on my dropbox

WebMAN Launchpad v0.13 Rebug 4.80 only

Those grey looks ok, black is horrible, dark grey also it's ok. I will experiment on it more. Thanks for screenshots, and explanations.

Can we change gradient bitmap from item description? Instead of green-blue it's would be better if this color be just dark grey. IMHO. ;]

I also have little request for joypad icon from RCO. ^^

@DeViL303 If You have in mind system sorting I'm totally agree. Genre is not a good idea but if games will be system sorted I will use LaunchPAD instead of WebMAN. ^^ I really like this concept of items presentation, and also I haven't much games at once but I also don't like all of them in one bag.

I will sort out the joypad icon for you, edit here it is:

I'm not sure where the blue bit is, but yes it would be nice to change that too, I'll have a look for it.

About system sorting, Yes, bitsbubbas idea was to have a spacer with system logo in the middle and blank icons either side. here is a quick example.(not a very good example)
