PS3 Located Burn Spots above NEC-TOKIN capacitors next to RSX. 90nm CECHA01, YLOD.

Even though it's not typically capacitors per Felix, I would say that potentially the heat from the RSX could have caused these two chips to burn, putting intense heat into the heat shield to discolor it.

Hmm that sounds interesting. Ive handled a lot of overheated boards but never seen a discoloration. Even when you reflow a board at 250deg. C theres no discoloration. seems like there was too much current going through for whatever reason ..
where exactly do you have those burn marks?
