thank you very much

The vtrm reinitialization is a "permanent fix" but corruption may occur again if the nor chip is defective in which case the rsod symptoms & trophy errors will come back.

I have a CECHA01 that powers up and in the process of booting presents the RSOD. I've tried accessing the restore menu with no luck. Also, I bought it this way so I don't have any ideas what OFW is installed on it. Any suggestions on first steps?

You are welcome.
If ever you use lv2diag, be careful, don't forget to exit diag mode properly & never try to install a firmware in diag mode.
If you use Evilnat 4.88.2 or a Rebug CFW, there should be a rsod fix feature in the CFW Tools, no need to use lv2diag.self.

Use Google Translate if you have to.

How knowledgeable are you with rsod? I really need help

What is the issue exactly?
When does the RSOD occur?
Give as many details as possible.

Heres is the post I made, i got this system two days ago, it was sold for parts or repair. I thought it just needed a new hdd with firmware, but it was deeper than that. This seems like a repair that needs an e3 flasher, which im not looking to buy right now, but, there is hope, when I tried updating it said it need to be updated with system software 3.00 or higher, so I im pretty sure this ps3 is stuck in 2009, with firmware 3.00, which means (from what I understand) it can accept cfw without flashing? Am I correct? If so, is theres some kind of firmware I can install the bypasses/fixes rsod?

RSOD requires vtrm (a region in flash memory) reinitialization. The problem often comes from corruption of that region which is easily and "permanently" fixed by the vtrm reinitialization process but in some cases it can also be caused by a defective NOR chip, in which case the problem would just come back eventually and the only real fix would be to change the chip altogether.

If the system lets you install a cfw with RSOD bypass and boot it without crashing, you should be able to reinit vtrm and fix the problem.
I suggest trying first with a Rebug REX 4.xx CFW with RSOD bypass.
AFAIK you can try the Rebug cfw that joonie posted in post #22 of this thread.
You should not need to use lv2diag.self in theory, the CFW Tools should let you enter/exit FSM and launch the RSOD fix without lv2diag.

NOTE:
DO NOT INSTALL ANY FIRMWARE WHILE FSM IS ACTIVE, EXIT IT FIRST!!!!

I don't know what fsm is, I don't think this system is jailbroken

Also I did find a link here by joonie and it didn't work, what else is there?

FSM means factory service mode, it's what s#ny uses internally to repair consoles.

You shouldn't need to jailbreak to install a CFW if your fw is lower than 3.56.

The link from Joonie in post #22 works fine for me, I just used it to download the PUP file.

What do you mean post 22? Maybe I'm looking at the wrong reply

Well, f@ck

Since I tried updating with the latest ofw before I knew all this the ps3 now only accepts firmware 4.90 and above, so we'll never know whats happening, Ill need to get my hands on an e3 flasher, not worth the money for a non bc system. Maybe one day.

Also I assume the nor chip cant be changed with any chip from any console right? Causes if thats the cases I have hundreds of boards I can harvest one from

NOR flash chip itself isn't bound with any console specific data so you can replace it as long as you can flash the original dump... which also requires a hardware flasher. so you can't just swap and go without the flasher..

Hello everyone.
I have RSOD on my just after power it on, already tried re-installed FW and no juice.
It's on 4.89 OFW.
I have bought an e3 flasher, waiting for delivery. But i have some questions:

Do i need teensy2++ to enter on FSM and fix the RSOD or Ps3 Dump Checker will patch it for me and after flash the patched dump i just need to install CFW 4.90? Any específic version to use?

It's normal the dump when checked on app return FAIL because the NOR is damaged? Should i look into any specific line of the checking?
What is the actual step by step so i can fixed the RSOD? Mainly without swap the NOR chip.

Thanks in advance, any help is welcome.
