PS3 ManaGunZ - PS3 Backup Manager by Zar v1.41

Oh my, I got Rick Rolled! LOL I joined the party!

I'm new here, so I do want to, sincerely, thank you developers for the fantastic things you all have done for the PS3.

Joonie, DeVIL303, Zar, and other devs, Thanks for your work!!!

I'm having a strange problem with managunz. Several days ago, I updated managunz to latest version v1.35, used it to mount some PS3 iso backups and everything was working. Today, I tried to change theme in managunz and my ps3 just froze up when I scrolled down to "Game Backup Path" in settings screen. I had to use the power button to turn it off. I tried several times and every time when I reach "Game Backup Path"(by scrolling down) or "Color 1"(by scrolling up) section, the system will freeze up. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling managunz, didn't help. I also tried previous versions and they all managed to crash the system. I did replaced some system font before but since I updated to rebug 4.84.2, I suppose those files in flash are rewritten, right?

Moreover, when I try to press triangle on a PS2 iso to access the menu, the system will softlock, i.e. I can exit the software by pressing the PS button, but managunz will freeze at the loading screen forever, saying something about finding patches with a bullet flying around. Pressing X to mount a PS2 iso directly works fine.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having a weird problem with managunz. It mounts PS3 and PS2 isos fine but the system will completely freeze when I press triangle to access menu on any PS3 iso, and I have to use power button to switch it off. When I try to access menu on PS2 iso, the system will softlock, saying something about finding patches with a bullet flying around forever, but I can exit to XMB by pressing PS button. The system will also immediately lock up when I scroll down to "Game Backup Path" in settings screen. System is Rebug 4.84.2, plugins running in background are webman mod and psnpatch. Already tried to reinstall managunz, didn't help. The weird part is that I have another PS3 on rebug 4.84.2 with same plugins installed and managunz runs flawlessly on it, so maybe it's console related? The PS3 I'm having problem with is CECHL01. Already googled but couldn't find anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First delete ManaGunZ then reinstall it. It may fix you issue...

I'm working a lot on the next update, It will be much more stable, i hope it will fix your issues.

Ok, i asked about the language incase there was some broken texts specific for a language

I been testing intensivelly some of the previous managunz betas, and specially some of the features you mentioned and was working fine
To be honest, the amount of problems you are reporting doesnt makes sense, im not telling that you are wrong but are too much things that initially doesnt seems to be related with each others
So... dunno... initially i was thinking it could be the .ttf files you changed, but as you mentioned after reinstalling the firmware the .ttf files should "revert" to officials... so thats not the problem

Dunno... but you are having some kind of general problem that is breaking functions everywhere
Have you tryed to check if other homebrews works normally ?
Im thinking maybe what is happening is your hdd is having problems... so everytime you use funtions that reads/writes hdd there is a delay that "breaks" the function

Thanks for the reply.
For other homebrews, they all work perfectly. Webman mod, multiman and Irisman all mount iso without any problem. I do notice that if I use multiman to mount an ISO and use webman to mount another iso later, the system will freeze. But I suppose this might be a problem with multiman, right? It hasn't been updated since last year.
As for the hard drive, I don't think it's related to this problem, as it's a new 1TB seagate drive I bought last month.
I'm thinking that maybe managunz writes some config files to directories other than its own folder, which aren't deleted when I deleted managunz from xmb. I might managed to corrupt these files, which explains why reinstalling managunz doesn't solve my problem.

Thanks for the reply. As I said, I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling managunz, didn't help. I also tried some older versions and an unofficial version based on 1.34, same issues. i'm thinking that maybe managunz writes some config files to some other directories other than its own directory and for some reason these config files get corrupted, resulting in my strange issue.

I merged our posts in the other thread here @xxxmarioxxx

The only files i remember right now that are loaded by managunz externally (from outside of the managunz installation path) are located next to the game backups, inside folders PS3ISO, PS2ISO, etc...
Are just copies of the ICON0.PNG and other small things like that

Im mentioning it just because i think i found a bug related with some of that in the last managunz versions that needs to be reviewed (im not sure why it happens, is a bit weird and random)
And when happened to me i only had some broken/corrupted images for the game icons displayed inside managunz, but it was not crashing

And im pretty sure some of the previous managunz versions was very close to be "bug free"
You said you was testing previous managunz versions and you was suffering similar problems, this makes me think the problem is not inside managunz

If is not the hdd im not sure what could be, btw, are you loading the game backups from an external USB device ?
Incase you are doing it, please disconnect it and forget about it by now (while making tests trying to find the problem)
Is better if you do all tests with a game backup loaded from internal hdd (and nothing connected to USB)

Also, have you tryied to enter "recovery menu" and use the option "restore filesystem" ?
This should fix all posible problems with the internal hdd filesystems

I'm pretty sure all my folders only have iso images, no other files in it.

I'm loading all my iso from internal HDD. Some of them have non-ascii characters in their file names, but I suppose that's not the problem,as they could be mounted and played without any issue.

I did try the filesystem recovery once, after a forced shutdown caused by managunz locking up the system. It didn't solve the problem.

Can you tell me if there are any log file I can pull from the hard drive to help diagnose this issue?

Do you use to run several backup managers in sequence everytime you boot the PS3 ?
Like... boot multiman, quit multiman ---> boot irisman, quit irisman ---> boot managunz

Im mentioning it because this could cause weird and random problems, every backup manager writes his payload in ram, and there could be incompatibilities in between them
The point is one writes some code... then the next writes some code (on top of the previous code), and so on
When this happens the results could be completly random

Also, remember to reboot the PS3 to "free" the ram of that payloads... by rebooting the PS3 the ram contents are deleted
Incase you are in rebug, you should try to enter rebug toolbox, and disable cobra (this will disable all plugins too)... then turn off PS3, then turn on PS3 and boot managunz
In this mode managunz will use mamba instead of cobra... but most of managunz functions should work

Edit:
There is not any error log made by managunz

No, most of the time I just use webman mod to mount iso from xmb. When I want to use managunz, I always go right into managunz after the system powers up, without launching any homebrew or game.

Some of my rebug settings are: System mode: rebug/XMB: CEX-QA/Cobra enabled/QA flag toggled. I will try disabling cobra later and report back, but I don't think it's related to my issue since all images mount and play fine, but when I scroll down in settings or go to menu by pressing triangle, system will lock up..

Disabling cobra didn't change anything. Still have lockups but iso mounts and plays just fine. I also tried switching to system mode to normal, didn't help.

Again, my issue is:
--Completely freeze (PS button does nothing, have to use power button to shut down), as soon as I
----Press triangle to open menu on any ps3 iso;
----Scroll down to "Game Backup Path" item in settings menu
------(System freezes when I press down on Game Backup Path, i.e. switching to Language.);
----Scroll up to "Color 1" item in settings menu
------(Similarly, system freezes when pressing up on it, i.e. switching to Font.).
--Softlock (I can exit to XMB by pressing PS button), when I
----Press triangle on any PS2 iso, will stuck at "checking ps2 patches..." forever, but the system is not locked up, I can press square to make the bullet go faster.

Can you tell me if there's anything in common in above actions? Thank you

PS3 model ?
Firmware installed ?

Can you try to:
1) uninstall managunz
2) install managunz standalone filemanager (the download link is in github)

The standalone filemanager have a big amount of functions disabled, im wondering if you are going to have the same problems with it

Edit:
PS3 model ?
Firmware installed ?
Ok, i was reading your previous posts, is a CECHL01 with rebug 4.84.2
Not sure if the model or firmware are going to make any difference, but is good to know it just incase

Ok, just tried the filemanager. Everything, except mounting iso, is working. Went through the settings menu and the system didn't freeze. However, when I press X on an iso to mount it, the filemanager exits, but on XMB the iso isn't mounted.

I also tried reinstalling rebug 4.84.2, didn't help.

Now I'm thinking maybe this is a model related bug, as my other system, CECHE01 with exactly the same hard drive, same plugins (webman mod and psnpatch) and same CFW, has no problem with managunz. Moreover, on CECHL01, I'm also having a bug with webman's fan control. If I power off the system and power it back on, the fan will lock at maximum speed until webman is loaded and takes over fan control. This, according to webman mod's developer, is a bug only affects CECHL01 systems. So maybe CECHL01 is a strange revision and it somehow breaks managunz? It would be very nice if there's any debug version with logging function you could send me for testing. Thanks.

Could you try with Rebug 4.84.1 ?

Could you try with Rebug 4.84.1 ?

I was on rebug 4.84.1 for a week but as far as I remember, going to menu on any PS2 iso will result in softlock. Anyway, just installed 4.84.1, uninstalled and then reinstalled managunz, same problem. Instant freeze when opening menu on any PS3 iso, and softlock when opening menu on any PS2 iso.
