PS3 Movian (formely Showtime) updated to v5.0 (Stable)

(Updated: see post ) --- Movian or formerly known as Showtime has been updated to v5.0 (Stable), this homebrew media center for the PS3 that is capable of playing many forms of media and gives your CFW enabled PS3 tons of functionality that the official media player of the PS3 is unable to do. It has been awhile since we have seen a Stable release, but development continues almost daily with the testing and bleeding edge updates. Since the last official update developer Andreas Smas has brought a new user interface ](if you use the testing bleeding edge updates you have seen this UI for sometime and evolve into its stable state its is in now. A very cool screensaver was added to Movian Plus Movian now runs on some new platforms that includes a new Android, Max OS X, and also a Raspberry PI. See all these details and much more in the official release quote we have provided below:

It is really coming alog and looks awesome! Can the new ps3 rsx reversing also help the movian project at all? I am sure theps3 can afford us movian and all her glorious improvements. Looks as though Android got a lot of love this turn which my droid loves but my ps3 has so much htps3 potential on its own.

I really hope so, it should help them to include h.265 (hevc) support in PS3

I always found it weird that certain video files in movian says "Too slow for cpu to decode" Yet ps3 native video player plays it fine. Still happens in this new release.

But other then that it's a amazing piece of homebrew that i use daily.

It depends on which compression method they used, that error commonly appears when you try to play a h.265 (HEVC) encoded video, Movian supports almost every codec up to h.264 video files (also known as AVC or MPEG-4 Part 10) and almost every container format (.mkv .mp4 .3gp etc)

The problem is that h.265 is now the standard codec to use these days and obviously its heavily-CPU dependent, and is going to replace h.264. It's got so many advantages and is superior to H.264 in quality, size etc but that's another subject lol.

The only workaround is to play these files using a media server (for example Universal Media Server)

Yeah I noticed videos that worked fine before now have that "Too slow for cpu to decode" thing happening.
I shot back to a 4.99 version and they run fine again.. Strange.

Impressive!!! Movian v5.0.40 now supports Remote Control from one device to another. e.g. use Android or web version (chrome app) to control Movian on PS3
https://movian.tv/downloads/movian/master

This mirror the Movian menus on the remote device. So now it's possible to adjust the subtitles, video and other settings without disturb the viewers with the on screen menus.

Was just thinking about this when i was using the android version the other day .. Thanks Aldo for the alert, will post some news about it.

v5.0.40 fixed the "Too slow for cpu to decode" thing as well.

Edit:

Unless I run it through Multiman.. Then it pops up.

I read in some old news that Movian with edition 5.0 will change js engine (so basically plugin engine) from SpiderMonkey to Duktape, is that happened?
