PS2 [MX4SIO/SIO2SD] SD Card Adapter and SD-driver for the PS2 SIO2 interface

Cool. Thanks Workz. I think I have a corrupt ISO. I tried it with another ISO and it worked great. Not sure if there's an easy way or not, but I just realized I need to rename some of the ISOs on the HDD. What's the easiest way to do that? Apparently I have a fair number of them marked wrong.

I use OPL Manager (connected to the internet) to correctly rename the ISOs, see below the 3 steps...

Press "OK" each time you are prompted.

I haven't touched this since 2017, so the HDD has a slew of partitions on it, one for each game. Right now they're all showing up like "SLUS.XXXXX.XGod Of War" So I want to correct for that. Will I be able to do that?

@kruuth ...bro what do you mean HDD? This is a thread for MX4SIO, if you are looking for help with your PS2 Phat and HDD issues then you should create a thread for that. This thread is only for MX4SIO help and support.

MX4SIO is for playing games via the memory card port.

You're right. Off topic then. Thanks for the help with the MX4SIO. It's working fine now.

It's just, it might be confusing to any newcomer, also anyone can create a new thread asking for help with something here on PSX-Place, it will get much more attention that way too, especially from people with experience who can help, otherwise your questions about renaming Game Titles on your HDD might get lost here after a few more new pages. :encouragement:

A friend of mine spotted another version of the adapter and plastic case.
https://jt-studios.com/shop/

Looks like a PS1 3D printed case using clear resin photon 3D printing. The pcb looks like a modified SIO2SD (the first version of MX4SIO) ...so it could fit in any PS1 / PS2 case, probably why they are selling the case and pcb separately. Infact they say they don't have the 3D printed case yet. No mention of this thread or where MX4SIO came from, typical.

Looking at the case it does not seem to be 3D printed, according to the description they use a mold.
As for the adapter indeed there is no reference to the original project.

Yes you're right, they say the case is made from molded plastic.
My 2 cents, their motto gives it away.
"All you need about live!"
This is a chinese, maybe scam site, at best ripping off any designs they can find due to zero f#$%s given about copyright laws etc.
I wouldn't buy from there if they paid me!

EDIT: They had a contact me page, so I sent them an FU message and the next page came up with their address!
Digital Building,NO.1079,Nanhai Boulevard,Shenzhen, China
They live in a digital building! They are NPC's!

Hey guys! Started using an MX4SIO recently, but having a problem with reads dropping out while in games. Games appear in OPL fine, and can be played for a random amount of time until a cutscene randomly drops out or the game crashes. Cutscenes can normally be skipped after freezing to continue gameplay, but obviously not ideal.

PS2 model is 79003, using a generic microSD card in a SD card adapter from MyMemory. Fat32 format with 16384 allocation size.

Version of OPL being used is the bdm3 branch. Memory card saving works completely fine.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Everyone, new to the forum and just got an MS2SIO adapter and the FMCB Memory card from Helders Gametech and started playing with OPL. I have an old Launch PS2 that I got on day one and it has been iffy at reading discs for a long time so I've started exploring OPL and HDD loader as options. Easiest (aka cheapest) point of entry is the sd card adapters. I've had some luck getting games to play but others I just get a black screen on or they hang. I checked the compatibility chart online and wasn't able to find these games. Anyone have any experience with these? If this isn't the right place please let me know. I've only just started ripping my old games and tried only the few below. I'm also trying to setup and SMB share on my NAS to try. Not sure if that has better compatibility or not.

- Band Hero (Shows title screen with loading bar, but hangs after loading bar finishes)
- Guitar Hero World Tour (Shows title screen with loading bar, but hangs after loading bar finishes)
- SSX (Loads maybe 50% of the time)
- Gradius III & IV (doesn't load, black screen)
- Jak & Dexter (doesn't load, black screen)

Hi folks! Just wanted to jump in and let everyone know I updated my 3d printable case at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5195671 with modifications for the SIO2SD 1.0mm PCB. I think the fit is now perfect and there's of course cutouts for the microSD card and the two status LEDs. Of course free to use but if you share the files here I'd appreciate a link back to the thingiverse page! Cheers all :)

Note this is NOT suitable for the MX4SIO PCB which has a different shape.

I'm having trouble with the latest OPL beta 1.2.0 firmware trying to run games from the memory card adapter. It works fine with the old 1.1.0 beta firmware. Is there anything else I need to change besides loading up the new version of OPL? Thanks.

Hi all,

Been tinkering around with Helder's MC2SIO and having no luck loading into anything, unfortunately.

Running latest version of FMCB (1.966), and the specified version of OPL that his site has up for the MC2SIO. I have a 77000 Silver model, so I'm using the OPLPS2LD2.ELF file rather than the standard one for below the 7000 series. My SD card is a TEAMGROUP GAMING 256GB SDXC, formatted to FAT32 with GUIFormat, 16KB clusters (took forever). I chose this card as multiple people have confirmed that TEAMGROUP SD cards are working, both here and on Reddit, and it was on sale and has a hefty amount of storage space. My PS2 is hooked up via OEM Component Cables to an Open Source Scan Converter, and led via HDMI into my LG CX65 OLED.

Followed both Nacho and MrMario's videos to a T, and have basically gotten all the way to the end - OPL loads up properly, and shows all my games (at this point in time, just R-TYPE FINAL and Ridge Racer V for testing, as they are listed as Working in the compatibility Google Spreadsheet). I just can't boot into anything. I launch the game from OPL, and am met with a black screen nearly every time. I've tried on almost a dozen ISOs now, and the only thing that has ever booted in at all is F1 2002 (EA), which got to the main menu but failed to load up gameplay or FMVs. Every other game has not booted. I've tried all major game strata - USBUTIL-split >4GB games, <4GB ISOs and <700MB CD games, all the same. Black screen on launch, MC2SIO light unresponsive.

I've tried compatibility modes as well, to no avail. For example, Ridge Racer V apparently works better with only Mode 6 enabled, but changingthat didn't do anything for me either.

I'm starting to wonder if it's the SD card, or a compatibility problem, or I've simply arrived too early to this project. I've even deleted and repasted a fresh /OPL folder on my FMCB card to see if it was something wrong with OPL itself, but that's not looking likely. I may just load games onto my USB drive itself and see if anything boots, even though I abandoned doing that years ago when I saw how bad the FMV stutter was.

I'd appreciate confirmation/help from anyone that's come across this issue, as this project is looking like a dead end for me for now if I simply can't load into anything.

Cheers.

Hi, I'm having the exact same issues as you, also with the MC2SIO that Helder sells.
I can't, for the life of me, get this thing to work with my PS2, even trying to play the so called compatible games from the compatibility list. A lot of them just give me a black screen, others "boot" but freeze on the first splash screen within seconds and won't go any further. Helder's MC2SIO have an activity LED, and I noticed when the game freezes the activity LED turns completely off, maybe suggesting that the communication between the MC2SIO and the console gets somehow interrupted.

Console model: SCPH-75004
OPL version: OPNPS2LD-v1.1.0-Beta-1629-e20f2ee-bdm3
SD card: Kingston CANVAS Select Plus 64Gb (and also the 32Gb version, with the correct cluster size and everything). Those SD cards are compatible acording to Helder. Tried other brands too, but to no avail.

Some people suggested to turn on PADEMU to improve compatibility even if you are no going to use it, but that did nothing for me.

I think I'm gonna wait until this mod matures a little bit more, a lot of brilliant people are constantly working on this proyect and I'm pretty sure they will sort the issues out. For the moment, I'm gonna play my games through SMB as usual.

That might just be perfect for me, I just took delivery of 300 pre-made PCBs and was just about to start measuring as the last one I printed didn't fit the boards correctly. I may mod the case slightly but that's cool, I can Blender.
Just wanted to say thanks for doing the measurement and adjustment work for me!
Thumbs up!
