Recently my ps3 has stopped playing discs I tried updating it and at 99 percent it gives the error. I've tried a new ribbon cable and putting the daughter board in different drives but nothings working. I'm not sure if the problem is on the daughterboard or the motherboard . Before I tried updating it the drive would accept and spin discs but the game wouldn't launch on the XMB and just keep spinning the disc until I ejected it.

Sounds like a failing hdd or a bad update file.
The disc drive not showing the game on the xmb is another issue. Can be a dirty / failing laser.
I've also had this issue and it turns out that the NEC Tokins where failing.
Swapped those out resulted in games being able to be read again and fully dumped.
Definitely check your syscon for error codes and go from there!

I just tried Syscon error logging and couldn't find any errors that were outside of the console being turned off improperly. I'm beginning to think that my ps3 is soft locked and would need to be hardware flashed do you know either a good tutorial or a service that could do it for me.

No error codes is a great sign you are going to be just fine!
Try swapping in a new hdd or ssd. You'll have to install the update from a usb then. But if it gets past 99%, then that's one problem fixed.
The disc drive not reading discs anymore could just be a dirty laser. Seems like that's the culprit considering theres zero syscon error codes.
Isopropyl alcohol and a qtip will sort that right away.

So I tried throwing in a new hdd but when I turn the console on it gives no signal and turns back off after a minute. But when I put the original back in it gives signal again so I guess it won't accept a new hdd or something.

Always PS3 must accept empty drive. You should be prompt that it is unformatted and asked for fw on USB (NAND models not needs update file, NOR and eMMC needs). So what you described, points to some hardware side issue.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure where the problem is I looked at it's board and nothing looked damaged and all the cables were in properly. Is there a professional or someone who could tell me exactly where the problem lies.
