PS3 Need help in putting cfw on ps3

Hi everyone,

I recently got an sshd and I would like to set it up on my ps3. I know the setup where you insert the sshd to the ps3, boot it into safe mode, go to system update, insert the usb with the cfw and it will set it up after it reads the file but for some reason, it is stuck on "Checking...please wait" screen. I did the instructions just like what Mr mario said in his vid but I skipped some for the method I chose. Am I doing something wrong? For context, I have a non-BC phat ps3 and the cfw I want to use is evilnat. Should I just use the "Restore PS3 System" option in safe mode and do Mr marios full tutorial ?

Did you patch the flash? I think that's needed to install cfw if you're on ofw.
What is patching the flash and how does one do it?
What I did was set the usb to fat32, mbr, etc, and added the necessary files

I'm not on ofw, I need to use the System Update option in safe mode so that I can set the ps3 up with my new sshd drive

you're already on cfw? if so, something may be up with the sshd you just put in. I dunno. they're supposed to work well in the ps3. ssd don't though. not sure what could be going on other than the ps3 doesn't like the drive.

Is there a way for the ps3 to accept the drive? Because I think that is what's going on. Idk if I said this already but I got this serviced by CPR who also fix ps3s. When I first started to run the ps3, it worked fine but the usb ports were not working. Upon further inspection of their handiwork, I saw that the ribbon cable that was supposed to connect the USB to the rest of the ps3 was loose so I fixed it and now the usb ports work but the rightmost side of the usb port does not seem to work. I use that right port for the usb drive btw.

You clearly didn't follow MrMario's tutorial, because patching the flash is a must in order to install CFW, and rBgToolset is unavailable at the moment.

Oh, my bad. Didn't realize there was a second option. I tried doing it exactly as it said, but going into safe mode first for the 2nd update then to the 1st update. The reason being is formatting the sshd to get it working. It took way too long but I got it to update it. Thank you for the link!

UPDATE: I got it to update! I went with the patching the flash option

UPDATE: it got stuck on a loop for updating the error code is 8002f14e. Is this for the Blu-ray drive being disconnected from the ps3? If so, if I connect it, will it properly update?

ANOTHER UPDATE(sorry for the updates): I tested my theory and it worked! I'm going to have a word with the ppl who cleaned my ps3 lol. Apparently, when I checked the internals, the wires that connected the Blu-ray drive to the motherboard was loose. Same thing happened with my usb ports
