need help replacing my HDD in my slim

ok so i have a ps3 slim that has CFW on it im upgrading the HDD, since the original HDD died and the issue is i cant remember if i used CEX CFW and then upgraded the firmware to DEX or if i left the CFW at CEX please help i dont want to brick my PS3 slim

There's no brick risk in attempting to install a CEX CFW on a DEX kernel and vice versa, trying to update/reinstall in recovery mode would just fail, nothing more.
You can get and try both CEX and DEX firmware types.
For instance, Rebug 4.84.2 REX and D-REX if you are still using Rebug.
Or
Evilnat 4.90 CEX (or PEX) and D-PEX if you updated to evilnat CFW after Rebug 4.84.
