PS3 Need some help ...PS3 system is dead after opening an app

Hello guys
Recently i jailbroke my ps3 with Overflow 4.85....Everything was fine until one day out of curiosity i checked the apps that came along with overflow.....i saw one app called cex2dex and since i heard that u need DEX system to put mod menus in games(i wanted to put some mod menus that was the reason why i jailbroke my ps3 but i couldn't turn it to dex)...so i opened this app(keep in mind that i did a reasearch but i couldn't find anything about this app)...It started installing something and after a while there was "No Signal" indicator in my TV....i tried re-opening my PS3 but nothing....Then i also tried booting it in safe mode ....Safe mode menu opened but i couldn't do anything...After a while even safe mode didn't open...Does anybody know why or how to fix it??

try to rest the video...with the ps3 off, press and hold down the power button until you hear one beep then let go of button. (if your ps3 cant beep anymore it will also flash the green light)

you said the tv said no signal and later you got into safe mode...its either soft-brick or needs video reset. i would at least try video reset...what can it hurt? i have two ps3s right now that were given to me for parts that only needed video reset.

I don't think that's the problem though...I will try thanks for the idea but i have to say that i think something's damaged when i opened cex2dex...Right now i can't open my PS3 even on safe mode.....The screen is black even when i try to boot on safe mode.

[EDIT]:I just noticed that when i try to turn my ps3 on it doesn't do that much noice...It is so silent (this is not usual for my ps3 since i have it for years (since ps3 first came out))....

its probably dead but worth a shot anyway.

keep in mind that i did a reasearch but i couldn't find anything about this app
So when you couldnt find any info you decided to just risk it with no info about how it works? That was a big mistake. I think you will need a HW flasher and I am not even sure if that will help.

Hey Devil, have you heard much about this tool, or even any success stories from it? This seems to be a tool only Overflow has and unfortunately I've seen multiple people tell this exact same story.

- Successfully jailbreak PS3 with Overflow CFW.
- Poke around and find a thing in What's New called cex2dex.
- Run said thing, because why not?
- Bricked console.

I have no idea what's possessing people to try it for fun? More importantly, I have yet to see any success stories from using it.

Shit :(

I don't know anything about it. @Joonie was just saying CEX2DEX is the name of a PC app too. I think @Bobby_Downgrades must have made this custom homebrew. Maybe he can answer and maybe he should remove it if its causing full bricks? I think these bricks might not even be fixable. :(

It might be a case of people using something like new SEN enabler on 4.85 to spoof 4.86, then trying to use CEX2DEX app or something like that. Either way people should be warned not to use this homebrew.

Yeah man, I'm just not sure. When I first started seeing these stories I started looking it up, sadly there's little/no documentation on this implementation of it for Overflow CFW. My experience with this has always been on Rebug Full CFW and Rebug Toolbox.

Before posting this I decided to do another search, I found one video from Bobby himself on CEX 2 DEX using Overflow. However this is on an older firmware, using a modified Rebug Toolbox, not his custom solution in What's New... So unfortunately nothing to add.

Hey Devil about that HW flasher...i have that dump.hex or that flash_(some numbers).hex files .....They're supposed to restore your ps3 in case of sth bad happening right??But i haven't found anybody who can explain me how...Maybe you guys know somebody who i can contact that knows how??

The dump might help alright.

I don't know enough about that to help.

This is unknown app that has done unknown damage, so there is no expert that I know of. Sorry.

Ok ....But do you know someone who can help me ??Like an expert or something??

Clicky clicky-ing on things that you don't understand makes bricky bricks....

The backup flash dump that was made, CAN be used, if used correctly with a hardware flasher and appropriate software to recover. It's POSSIBLE. Probably have to byte reverse the dump on a pc.

Flash was modified in some way to convert cex2dex, so you'll MOST LIKELY need a HARDWARE FLASHER and a computer with ability to read microSD cards....

No, I don't know that cex2dex homebrew. Only the old PC app.

@Hexxy Chan if you have a dump backup made before brick, you should be able to save your console using an hardware flasher.
If not, it may be difficult if the eid's have been modified and if you don't have the erk.

Hi guys,
sorry for the late reply @DeViL303 .

The app that @Hexxy Chan is talking about is the firmware updater, WHICH CLEARLY SAYS IN IT'S DESCRIPTION UNDERNEATH THE DOWNLOAD OPTION that it is to be used with Overflow 4.81 cex2dex or Overflow 4.81 dex2cex versions of the said cfw.

Just for clarification, the app that Hexxy Chan mentioned does not edit the flash, All this app does is update the VSH and install some small files designed to update the cfw and spoof the ps3 for psn access.

As we all know installing an incorrect VSH file will cause a soft brick as it will not be signed correctly, however it is not possible to cause a hard brick, if there genuinely is some issue causing the ps3 to not boot into safe mode it must be a coincidental hardware issue.
From what Hexxy Chan says there seems to be some other issue, for example not using a wired ps3 controller for safe mode.
Strange how the ps3 booted into safe mode but now does not, my guess is graphics issue/video reset needed.

@MrMario2011 , some of my videos are old, ideally I need to update them.
In the description of that video it has a written explanation of how to convert from cex to dex or vice verca.
If anyone is interested,
Install overflow 4.81 cex2dex v1.
Install Overflow boxed tools from the install packages->hard drive option.
Open boxed tools, go to cex and dex options.
Select dump eid root key.
When ps3 beeps click convert to dex.
When ps3 restarts go to whats new in psn column and install cfw updater.
When ps3 restarts it is all done ready to go online.
When converting from dex to cex, it is the same process but click convert to cex (the option will have changed).

For more clarification, when people do not read before using strange things happen, this is part of the reason why I am not so active anymore, Jo Bloggs user has become @*^$£>
