Dumped all of the games from the console itself, replaced them with my own, replaced the japan bios with a USA one from my original PS1, updated internal emulator in the console. All interestingly went well. I can use my PS Classic for better use now that I've updated the emulator, bios, etc.

You can get your saves over there through hex editing. Just need raw saves from your PS1 or 2. You need to create a save on the classic to add it to toc, then each block begins with SC in the text/ASCII section, with each block being exactly 0x2000 in length iirc. Just paste write over the existing save(s). I've tested it on my classic.
