1. You don't have to update because the last couple of multiman updates brought no new features iirc, they just fix the fw version detection on most recent fw versions.
Yet, updating multiman only takes a few minutes so...
2. app_home is a development folder used by developers to test their apps. On CFW, you can mount a legacy JB folder game on app_home & use the provided XMB link to launch the game. Check the mount options in Managunz for a JB folder game, you will see a app_home option, if you check it & mount the game, you will find the app_home link on XMB is now your mounted game.
3. As the name indicates, the sMan GUI is not SMan, only the GUI called sLaunch iirc.
The GUI displays a new window on XMB with your wMM games list. To mount the game you wish, you can simply click on its cover. The mounting is done by wMM of course.
4. DB fw uses only one disk & the same console's id set as the CFW does. There is no need for spoofing ids on DB fw unless your console is banned.
When you install a fw, no matter what type, ofw, cfw, db fw, the installed contents on the internal disk remain untouched, the same games/apps are still installed etc.. You can switch between cfw & db fw, back & forth, when you are on CFW you have full access, when you are on db fw, only the installed games & apps that are properly licensed will work (no resigned game, no iso mounting, no brew etc..), just like using ofw. You can of course make use of the ps3xploit Tools to use HAN as you would be able to on OFW,
To keep jailbreak untouched but remain as safe as possible when using PSN, the best way is to use a DB fw along with retail discs or officially installed PSN games, just as you would on OFW.
5. You can delete the wMM Updater from XMB after installing wMM.
6. The XMB structure is defined in a series of system files in (nearly standard compliant! Lol) XML format (XMBML).
A column is referred to as a category & the XML files are named according to categories, for instance you will find category_game.xml in which all the Games Colum entries are defined in mark-up language or the category_network.xml file for the Network column etc..
The xml files must be modded to make changes to the entries, note that there are some limitations & restrictions. Mods like XMBPD, HAN Toolbox, CFW Settings & even wMM all require category XML file editing.
Check this info & navigate from there to other appropriate pages. https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/XMBML_Files
