OFW 4.41 CECHG03 Good points?

The hdd method is by far the most reliable to run the Flash Writer 2.0.
Also Miniweb isn't a very good choice of local Web server, I recommend using another local http server.
Would it be possible to run an HTTPS Server to host the exploits? As I have a friend who likes to run Kali and mess with anything I do on the network, and it gets annoying when I'm doing something important, so HTTPS would help me quite a bit.

I noticed that you have a raspberry you could set it up with Apache and dnsmasq then host the files from the Ethernet of the raspberry.
I have mine set up so the raspberry connects to the WiFi and shares it with the Ethernet on a different network. Then I connect my ps3 to the Ethernet port and still have internet but the ps3 is on a different network. Doing it like that you can access the server from either network and the ps3 is wired to the server.

Well I'm stuck on mobile data till the 1st of next month, and haven't been able to upgrade raspbian which is required for the version of Apache I planned to use, but haven't heard of dnsmasq. But that's my plan is for WiFi in (mostly for file transfer and video serving) and Ethernet out, I was wandering whether or not an Ethernet splutter could be used for say 1 PS3 and 1PS4 simultaneously.

Edit: I see your point now tho, Ethernet couldn't be dos'd or attacked like a wirelessly hosted exploit.

I haven't tried a splitter but I think it should work with the way I have it setup. With dnsmasq you can make the pi act like a router so it should give all of the devices connected to the Ethernet port a ip. I don't have a splitter or I'd give it a try.
If you want to give it a try some time I can show you a few things I've found over the last few weeks.

Ok that'd be cool, I hate to go off topic so much, I apologize. But with a VPN limited to 3 devices, would an RPI or PC be a single device even if it's supplying "VPN'd" internet to the connected devices, or would you not know, or would it depend on the VPN type brand protocol etc.?

Edit: we could also make a down pat method for various things like this, and consolidate it into a single thread in the RPI Section.

I'm not really sure about the VPN stuff. Have you seen this yet http://www.psx-place.com/threads/pkg-linker-pi.17878/
I'll be completely honest, I have seen it, I read the OP and most of the 1st page, but it's allot of reading for me considering I'm using mobile data to do everything, and can't download Linux programs or anything really, so I figured I'd give it a thorough look over when I'm on some real WiFi.

Sorry I'm on my iPhone so I can't quote the post properly but that's from the official post, and that's the MD5 your flash_482.hex should have when it's on the usb and ready to go. Idk if this is what you followed but it's the official thread.

Thank you for the info, i will check MD5 before i proceed, i obtained my Hex from the PS3Xploit website.

OK thanks, how do i run from HDD, do i need to install the Hex to HDD? If yes, how do i do that?

can you offer a good recommended alternative to Miniweb?

I have used Miniweb with high success rates installing HAN, launching HAN pkg enabler, dumping IDPS etc.

I am working from Windows Vista 32 bit PC.

I don't appear to encounter stability issues but i will take your word for it, anything you reckon would be better to use?

In theory the answer is yes so you can try.

But personally I don't bother with SSL in practice due to the very dodgy ssl support provided by the ps3 browser.

You should read the ps3xploit tools v2.0 instructions on **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) or posted in the ps3xploit tools v2.0 release thread.

In the hdd version, the patch gets downloaded to hdd by the browser as a picture file. You just hover over the provided link, press Triangle & choose Save As in theory ps3 browser menu.

Changing Web server is not an obligation at all if you have everything working, I was only saying that miniweb is not the best option. After many many tests, I can tell you that the performance of every server is widely different, some can be about 20 to 30x faster to serve pages than others...

Check this post about a few Web server alternatives.

Thank you for all the information.

I apologise for asking to be guided through the process instead of researching, i was just a little baffled at how to get the Hex onto HDD.

I had seen the hex in the files i downloaded from the PS3Xploit website as a JPG, i wondered why it was there, it makes sense now.

I will of course look at the alternatives and test some out, miniweb has worked for me without a hitch up to now.

I will attempt to install CFW later today.

May i ask one last question, how long from start to finish should the entire process take?

Installing Hex and CFW? 1 hour should be enough would you say? And which of the below would you recomend? My Bluray is not working so i am guessing one with NoBD anyway for sure.

If you have the software installed & server ready, I would say about 30mn to do MinVerChk, flash the chip, dump it, validate dump, cfw instalation.
It takes a few minutes more on nand than on nor due to dumping times.

Sorry for questions that may appear a little dumb.

I downloaded,
When i read through the Read me file as it says to do, it states the PS3 must be Jailbroken with Hardware flasher to install this.

Is this version of CFW safe to attempt to install after patching the Hex file from HDD? Or is there a very specific CFW needed for this method?

It was written back when there was no software flasher.
Overflow is like any other CFW, you can install it no matter how you obtained jailbreak.

Np. ;)
And no apologies necessary, that's what the forum is for among other things.
Moreover it is your own thread, you are free to post any questions you like in it..

Thanks, but i am aware of how annoying it can become if the answers are already available and the user is just being lazy not looking to figure it out.

I will always research what is required and figure it out, i figured out installing HAN, Miniweb, converting games, etc etc without being on any forum.

Its just that i hadn't considered installing CFW until i began this thread, i still feel if i attempt it today i am rushing into a little, i think there is a little more information needed on my part to be understood in the areas of MinVerChck and Verifying the Flashed Dump before i can proceed.

Thanks again.

MinVerChk is very straightforward. Use it like a firmware update from usb & it will display your minimum installable firmware version, which must be < 3.60 for the console to be compatible with CFW installation.
There is nothing more to it.

Dumping the flash memory, after patching it with the flash writer 2.0 BUT before rebooting, then validating that dump is a safety step in case the flashing went wrong due to user error (using bad hex file). Only pyps3checker can validate ps3xploit dumps & you will need to install python 2.7 to run it. You can use python 2.7.15 from python.org. Check the pyps3checker Readme file for syntax usage, it is very simple.
The validation result should show at most 1 warning in one of the 2 ROS regions, the other ros region should always be detected as ps3xploit 4.82 any more warnings or errors means something is wrong & the flash memory needs patched again.
If the validation succeeds & ONLY IF IT SUCCEEDS, you can reboot & install any 4.82 cfw. If ever you shutdown/rebooted the console despite a failed validation, you would partially brick the console & require a hardware flasher to revive it!

Refer to **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/help/writer.html to be sure you are not missing a step. Use the hdd version of the exploit if possible & remember to install ofw 4.82 twice before using ps3xploit to avoid a possible cfw installation error later.

Ok, thanks for all the assisstance from everyone.

I will install 4.82 OFW twice tonight.

I will complete the remainder of steps when i have a free day in case i encounter problems and cant shut down console.

Hello,

I installed OFW 4.82 last night, i attempted to install second time but the console returned message that there was no valid firmware to install? would not allow me to install twice. How can i get around this?

I then checked with MinVerChk and result came back as 1.90.

Tonight i will install HEX file to HDD, write flash, dump flash and verify.
