Old man getting back into this

Hello all, I recently got back into PS2 modding. My old school setup is a fat PS2 with swap lid, and I think a 250 gig harddrive. I use the swap magic 3.6 disc or Ultimate disc when using harddrive. This still works flawlessly. I recently purchased McBoot memory card and im now exploring it. Its been almost 20 yrs since I fooled with all this so having to relearn it all. I also have modded xbox, soft modded, with 250 gig harddrive and a Dreamcast im going to add harddrive to. I hope to learn what I need to know in this forum and get back into this.

theres been some developements to ps2 modding theres new version of opl i think its a fork of it that adds large ntfs drives or it might be exfat drives i dont remember exactly and theres a more modern entry point called free dvd boot theres also having games run of a memory card thats now a thing which is pretty cool its like a memory card with a sd card slot on it and suprisingly has decent compatibility with games and decent speeds its odly faster than usb loading of games

You unnecessary bought bootleg PS2MC with installed FMCB. First, because better is buying MMCE (it is memory card emulator which can serve as many VMC handler and at the same time playing games from it). Second, because instead FMCB, worth to consider is combo PS2BBL+OSDM (supporting exFAT out of the box (without BDMA), and devices like MX4SIO, MMCE). Third, because it is filled by ancient trinkets.

About internal HDD, if you can connect it. Worth to consider is formatting it as APA-Jail. Eventually as APA and install on it FHDB+HDD OSD or PS2BBL+HOSDM+HDD OSD. Or PSBBN DEP.

Currently NTFS is not supported by anything.

freehdboot + opl is still my preferred setup compared to hdd osd or psbbn. love the look of hdd osd/psbbn but i thought navigation could be a bit tedious compared to opl if you have a large library of games
