Old Playstation going to trash pick up(odds of working?)

Hey everyone it as been a long time since i came to the forum mainly because i moved to PS4 and my PS3 as been resting in its original box for a while.

Now to a recent event that made me nostalgic a hell, i was at my job and found a playstation around other electronics like VCR and and old tv's ready to go to trash, that thing was just calling for me to pick it up, didn't think twice and grabbed it along with all the cables and a dual shock controller.

I then opened it and it had a barbie game inside and it looked it had humidity so when when i got home lunch i cleaned it and left it there taking a breath until i get back from work, that links brand new it looked like a well preserved console so why would anyone dump it unless it really is broken, my plan was if it didn't booted up i would try replace the laser on the one i have because it doesn't read discs anymore.

Got home from work, connected everything and put my old Gran Turismo 2 game inside along with a memory card, at this point i was "no way this is working", pressed the power button and the green light appeared, my eyes then focused like a kid booing it up for the first time on that white and orange Sony Computer Entertainment, then the black screen and the Playstation logo appeared and another black screen and there i was moments after in the Gran Turismo 2 main menu.

The console is in perfect condition, since then i been playing a bit on it every day and its making me play so much old stuff that i am thinking on buying a PS2.
I know i can play playstation games on my PS3 but seriously booting a old playstation is so dam satisfying.

Sorry for the long text, errors and stupid punctuation, english is not my native language. :)

here a pic before i cleaned it

I was exactly like this when i got a hold of a first gen slim ps3, was gonna get scrapped so i took it instead. Had no hard drive in it and the air channels were blocked with this thick brown solid substance. I assumed it was in someones house who smoked a lot, but it was literally full of this substance, all over the internals, fans, power supply, everything. Made me quite ill actually looking at it at first. xD

But it was so satisfying to open up and clean, i even thought it wasn't gonna work once i saw it had taken some heat damage inside. I slapped a spare hard drive in it i had laying around once i was done cleaning, and it loaded fine. Just needed the firmware installing! Except the disc drive doesn't read discs well, but other than that, perfect working order.

I love hearing these sorts of stories so don't worry about it being long or anything, they're quite enjoyable to read! :D

All the old PS1's I've tried (mostly bought and sold) over the years always worked no matter what I first thought by looking at them. PSone's ("slim") was a bit trickier but the fat OG model always solid. Same with fat PS2's.
Sorry for later reply but I got happy just reading the OP here.

It's a good looking psx to me, even to be trash :D

Some things are for one person a garbage, and for another diamond. ;)
Haha, I just looked for a video of Ocelot in MGSV saying "good find" referring to diamonds, but no one uploaded it.
