PS2 [Open PS2 Loader] Requests, suggestions, ideas

I never found a Ps2 multi-bin game. Maybe you're making confusion with Ps1 games?

There are few PS2 games that have some CD-DA tracks.
I can't find them right now, but if you want I can post at least link to them tomorrow.

multi-bin would be mutli-disc...he means games with cdda (cd audio tracks after first track which is the game). original gta is one game like that.

Some apps can create multi-bin images + CUE. E.g. Track1.bin, Track2.bin... Track.cue.
Also Redump prefer that kind of a dump. Data+Audio in separate bin:

Some apps will create BIN (Data) + WAV\FLAC\APE... (for audio).

Some apps can create single bin+cue. E.g. Game.bin, Game.cue

But as you mention it was about: Data+Audio.

I see, thank you. I don't have any of those games (I have Frequency, but on Xbox).

Winhiip is able to install multi-bin games??

Before to know WinBin2ISO I used winhiip for correctly converting CD games to ISO (installing the games with winhiip to a PFS formatted USB pendrive, then extracting the games to PC and installing them to the internal HDD with HDL dump).

But as I said, I have never come across to any multi-track Ps2 game.

Only demo of this game for PS2 has got multi-tracks:

multi-bin or multi-tracks, because there is a difference...
Anyway I also did not try any of PS2 games with CDDA...
But what about to at least test any PS1 game that have Data+CDDA with WinBin2Iso?

Would it be possible to add reading/dumping the disc and auto install onto the HDD? When I say disc I mean any PS2 disc, not just those that have the same region as my PS2. I have a bunch of original discs from other regions which play fine in my chipped PS2, but they can not be ripped on the PS2 using the current programs available. I only add one or two games a year now so it would be nice to rip a game and install onto the HDD without having to remove the HDD and plug into a PC. Yes it is faster to rip using a PC, but for convenience and the occasional dump it's faster to rip it on the PS2 without having to pull out the HDD and mess around with it while it sits in a cabinet under my TV. I have seen many requests on forums to add a similar feature to other loaders but it seems no one is interested to add it?

@Lenny, rip games from the console lens destroys the lens ultra fast, and compatibility with games is also lost.

I remember from the old days of using the HDLoader that people cursed dying their lens because of that,
and that there were games that when they were installed from the lens they did not work, and installed
with HDLdump they worked perfectly.

Best regards.

This would be a really good idea, especially for those CD-based games that use audio stored across multiple tracks. Not sure how conversion works exactly in that case but I can imagine some people messing it up. (Me, for instance.)

Data tracks are 2048-bytes per sector, which are multiples of the 512-byte sectors in our present HDDs. Even when dealing with devices with 2048 or 4096-byte sectors, those are at least a multiple of the CD/DVD data track sector size.

On the other hand, a CDDA audio track sector is 2352 bytes. It'll be awkward to handle, without a filesystem of some sort - or just some other storage method that can support such an unusual sector size.
This will possibly require the present storage formats for USB and the HDD unit to be thrown out.

There's HDLGameInstaller, other than HDLoader. You could also install the games over the network, assuming you don't have one of those compatible network adaptors that don't have a working Ethernet port. Installation via CD/DVD isn't fast, due to hardware limitations.

I wouldn't say that getting the CD/DVD drive to read a disc will surely cause it to die faster on its own, since it's just reading a disc from the first to last sector. That is, without other factors like modchips and burned discs (particularly bad burns).

In HDLGameInstaller, installation from a disc does not support DVD-DL discs. This is because of the version of libcdvd it uses, which does not support DVD-DL.
Assuming HDLoader uses the same CDVDMAN module, it would have the same limitation.

I'm so glad to see that there's activity on github regarding PADEMU, I really hope belek are able to do this...
hope i will be able to use my USB arcade stick (zero delay board) on OPL... That would be so cool...

Would be nice if "FireWire/i.Link Driver" from SP193 in PS2ESDL would be added to Official OPL Builds in order people could have more possibilities to load their games by the means they like. Lets say SMB or usb just do not work for you, or difficult to set up smb share, but you have i.Link cable and HDD lie nearby, then I would say why not? Maybe it would work best for that person and would be his favorite method to run his own backups. So we will have USB, Ethernet(SMB), Internal HDD, i.Link in Menu of OPL. In such way everybody could be happy and plus OPL will become more advanced...

Instead of making another submenu, would be better to just use the same for USB and i.Link (if even this be implemented; switching between them support in options menu). Just renaming categories like IDE to Internal, USB/iLink to External and SMB to Network. This will keep backward compatibility with old skins and even turned to be more informative for newcomers.

Will OPL ever be able to load PS1 backups via PS1DRV (whether it's the solution used for the fat models or DECKARD) or is the system's hardware just too locked down for that sort of thing? Having that in OPL would be awesome for obvious reasons, but I don't know if it's technically possible or if there's even enough interest to reverse engineer the driver to that extent. Given that the IOP switches into a different mode for PS1 games while basically becoming the main CPU and (as far as I know) everything including USB, Ethernet and HDD has to interface through it normally, I'm guessing that's just not gonna happen, right?

PS1DRV switching PS2 to PSX mode. You cannot use then anything related to PS2 because IOP is turned into PSX CPU (I don't know how it looks like with Decard but Decard itself emulating IOP, right? So on this layer should works the same).

So You have choice: disc games using virtualising (as on unhacked PS2) or emulation (POPStarter>>POPS or PS2PSXe).

Hello, it is possible to create a solid file, that is, a solid block with all the game covers for example: I put all the covers inside a folder, then rename that folder to / + OPL / ART / BG.bin << ---- Nessa [BG.bin] in HD would be all my background covers - Forcing Opl to search the image files inside that .bin file - Because most of my "Persoanlized" jpegs and pngs don't load - And as if they didn't exist - Because they are not detected by the opl - the size - resolution - height - width the name of the images are absolutely correct - all my games are modified with translations path this modified all the md5 of the isos - does this influence having this bug? I think that when the opl scans SLUS for SLUS it cannot do an efficient reading so it bugs and does not load the image - because they are scattered Randomly inside the ART folder so that would not be the top priority of the opl - But put them in a solid file forcing the opl to read this file at all costs I think it would be an excellent idea - The BG.bin and Fictitious file and just an imaginary example of some other absurd way that I have in mind to modify in some way the reading of read backgrouds images for opl - i've done everything but only some fincionan and others not - If all of this is a trip from my head, I humbly ask 1000 Pardons - thank you :congratulatory::encouragement:

What logic is behind that? How reading VFS or database (impossible anyway to read whole at once, not enough memory for that) would fix Yours problems while contains exactly the same data inside, but additionally and unnecessary would be wrapped into another layer? Personally I hate databases because they are extremely annoying to edit data inside and often are unnecessary complicated (PS3, PS4, probably PS5, PSV, PSC). I hate also custom archives because they needs additional software for repacking. Let's leave that sh*t to Sony which love it. ;)

Yours problem comes probably from not following standard formats. In JPGs, do not use Hoffman optimization, strip it from EXIF and any not needed meta data. In case of PNGs, use 8bit colour pallete and no transparency.

If you have covers and some don't, it's probably your corrupted OPL partition.
Delete it and Recreate it as one
