PS2 OPL forks with exFAT support

Greetings,

I was just informed that I can use exFAT for both USB drives and HDDs, which is super cool.
That got me curious about all the possible OPL versions out there that support exFAT.

I know about the grimdoomer (Ryan Miceli) fork, which does include exFAT support, but the repo was archived on September 3, 2024, and the latest release - v1.2.0.6-1996-Beta (May 27, 2023) - crashes for me.

Because of that, I switched to the official ps2homebrew OPL build and grabbed the latest release: OPNPS2LD-v1.2.0-Beta-2221-81acdf8.
As far as I know, this branch gained exFAT support sometime after v1.1.0.

So far it's the most stable version I've tested and everything works fine.

I've also seen the very fancy-looking OPL builds from Jay-Jay-OPL (the so-called "OPL Daily Builds").
However, those don't work for me - no games show up at all - which makes me think they either lack exFAT support or something else is missing.
That repo also seems pretty old, with the last commit being from January 3, 2022.

So is there anything newer that I might be missing - ideally with exFAT support and maybe some additional cool features?

Honestly, I really like how the Jay-Jay-OPL builds look.

Gratitude

And one last thing - I've bought a Bitfunx MX4SIO SIO2SD adapter and plan to experiment with some SD/TF cards.

Do I need the ps2-mmce OPL fork for that, or will any of the other OPL versions work as well?

Thank you

Just for the record.

Support for it (exFAT) has been added in:
rev1879 - Changed vfat to fatfs. - 2022-06-08 13:24..4e1a3415 - JoseAaronLopezGarcia.

OPL v1.1.0 is rev1791.

That got me curious about all the possible OPL versions out there that support exFAT.

From what I remember there were only two forks with exFAT support.
1st one was here:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/t...h-exfat-support-files-above-4gb-on-usb.37455/.
2nd one was here:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/t...al-exfat-2tb-hdd-and-multi-bdm-devices.40018/.

In the end both of them are now part of the Official OPL repo and were added in:
rev2184 - Add support for BDM HDD from grimdoomers fork
rev1879 - Changed vfat to fatfs

What strange is in that? Forks are experimental builds. Like eg OPL MMCE had MMCEMAN support or like OPL GD had BDM HDD support. All of that is currently integrated and enhanced in OPL.

No. There is no way to add exFAT to OPL DB until you modify source code.

MX4SIO is not MMCE. MX4SIO is handle by BDM drivers while MMCE by MMCEMAN driver. MX4SIO is like pendrive but connected to SIO2, while MMCE is memory card emulator with access to emulator external storage. MMCE is far waster than MX4SIO on pre-Deckard models too. Been on Your place I would sell it and buy MMCE.

You like how OPL DB theme looks like? Are you fine with app store stole icons, OPL malformed dick logo, repainted someone else theme and signed as JJs one? ;) <Korium crying in the corner>

uOPL supporting BDM HDD.

It also supports BDM USB with FAT32 & exFAT file system.

From what I remember support for exFAT has been added in OPL in 2022-06-08 (rev1879).
KrahJohlito has started his changes after rev2172 (2024-11-07).

So way after exFAT file system has been added in official OPL.
Probably that is why uOPL reads exFAT file system on USB devices.

Nice
unofficial Open PS2 Loader Betrayal gave black screen but unofficial Open PS2 Loader (2024-12-23) worked, so good enough for me.
Thank you

You mean a black screen after launching a game?
If yes I have the same results with Betrayal (with exFAT file system) although this version shows games list without a problem.
When I rename unofficial Open PS2 Loader Betrayal.elf to uOPL.elf and delete the old config everything is fine after all.

On the other hand everything is fine with unofficial Open PS2 Loader (2024-12-23) as you mentioned.
Games launch normally.

uOPL based on code at some commit but also is heavily modified. It have expanded theming system to support classic list but also coverflow (bugged: theme settings not loading on start making it impossible to permanent lock them; plus coverflow variant have too long disc box mirroring exceeding the plank boundary); BDM HDD from OPL GD before OPL implementation on which is based, not on vanilla Grimmdoomer work); also it was possible to use UDPBD (not finished) and Neutrino (not finished). Another main goal was to use older ps2sdk which is not plagued by bugs from current changes, which is plague for most of homebrews including OPL which is heavily affected by them. We (KrahJolito, me, Ripto and Wolf) working on uOPL since November 2024 until half of December and that version was first release, a preview. Then... something happened between KJ and OPL devs I assuming? Because KJ disappeared without word and wanted remove source of uOPL from all places... Ripto hardly take that and for few months kept src still on github but ultimately also deleted it.

Since my work was default theme(s) design, I can write more about it. My goal was to refresh the look and drop the "dark basement feeling" from Korium. However people it seems have wrongly setup their matrixes in TV/monitors because for many backround is... white, while in reality is bright but still grey with a little yellowish filter, with diagonal shadows pointing user focus on the center. There was some hate at various of social media "what shit I made". Many people don't using well lighted rooms for playing games, many using CRTs too, OSDSYS/FMCB/PS2BBL are dark by design, so... for them starting uOPL was like flashbang dropped though fireplace. :D And because it was funny, I called that theme Flashbang. ;d And here we are reached the point of uOPL Betrayal variant. Ripto recompiled uOPL with replaced background image by just black rectangle but with different ps2sdk than KJ used. This introduced new bugs but for some reason fixed theme settings saving.

In the middle of 2025, with Ripto we deciding to make uOPL themes standalone (of course except coverflow because that's not possible to port to OPL), so they could be used in any OPL. But for private reasons, this never happened and Flashbang along to non yet published Heban (the same as Flashbang but dark like haters dark souls ;D) died.

Just my three cents of sad uOPL history.

@Ripto @KrahJolito
