OPL Loads Games on One PS2, But Not the Other

Using the same settings, FMCB card, and display method, I can get games to run off USB on my slim NTSC 79001, but not my slim NTSC 77001.

While one boots games just fine, the other is stuck on a black screen whenever I try to boot a game from the OPL menu. The only two notable differences are that the 77001 has a broken disc drive, and a missing door sensor. Using an SMB server to access the games did not work either. Could this be a hardware issue?

Update: After trying to boot Klonoa 2, the Namco logo showed up, but after the screen stayed black.
