OPL on PS3

Ok you can not get the system to use ps3netserv. You will have to setup a SMB share. USB is fine for games that are not FMV heavy or you just do not care. It is still nowhere near as bad as a PS2 but anyhow. Use this info to get it setup and 99% of PS2 games have no stutters.

Hey Atreyu, I just sent you a private message, but I see already you have answered some of the questions here. Thanks.

I tried that tutorial a couple of times but I had no success. I think I must be doing something wrong. (I will try again tomorrow, but I think it will most likely fail.)

What I'm not sure about is if the Network Settings in the PS3 XMB need to be changed to accommodate the OPL network. Or is it just the network setting within OPL that matter?
Currently, my Network Settings in the XMB are configured to work with PS3 Net Server.

I wondering... maybe it is possible to made OPL 1.1.0 and newer to works with BDM, I have in mind: creating disk image with game inside and sign it as VME. Depend how SIO2 is implemented, maybe it would be possible to get it works on PS2 emu on PS3 just like MX4SIO on PS2. Crazy idea, very annoying to test but this interface is faster than USB in PS2 and emulated PS2 USB. Yet still, VME cannot be read from USB and Cobra cannot redirect it for the same reason as cannot read PS2 disc images from USB. So this doesn't have sense anyway. ;p

I found this information: https://www.reddit.com/r/ps3homebre..._someone_share_an_opl_iso_that_works_with_bc/

"You can 100% load PS2 games over a SMB share with a full BC PS3. Did this myself a while back and think I could see the PS2 games via USB. FMV's do tend to skip streaming over a network and via USB as despite being USB 2.0 it still emulates with USB 1.1 thus making it painfully slow and really choppy with videos. More so then the SMB share over a network."

According to that poster: "FMV's do tend to skip streaming over a network" & "it still emulates with USB 1.1".

If someone can confirm that for me, then it's worthless to investigate this further.
I would rather wait for the ISO to copy to the internal HDD than to suffer choppy/stuttering FMV scenes.

Tonight I got it working.
I followed this guide: https://consolemods.org/wiki/PS3:Open_PS2_Loader_(OPL)
AND I connected the PS3 to my router, before this I had my PC connected to my PS3 via an ethernet cable. (I thought it would have worked just like PS3 Net Server, but apparently not. You need a PS3 to router to PC set up with ethernet cables.
The games I have tested so far seem to be running at FULL SPEED.
But, there are a few kinks I might need to iron out but I will wait till I have my Synology NAS. It will take a few months for me to get one.

What I don't get: why doesn't WMM work like this? Obviously it's technically possible to do. Aldo should just work incorporate OPL into WMM.
Another question: is it possible to get the PS3 to think the OPL disk is a PS1 disk? If that were possible then WMM could run it's normal fan control.

You're probably the only person in the world to actually get OPL working on PS3 like that.
I suspect there's only about a half a dozen people who got it working.

Used to be very active back in the day. Unfortunately time is not something I have much of nowadays. That is why I sent you the console mods link a few post up. Glad you got it sorted, I only have 5-10 via SMB as I backed up my entire collection except for a few to internal while using NAS for PS1/PS3 and the odd PSP game.

And I am sure webMAN might be able to do this but would only work for a very small portion of the community. That and the devs still active most do not have a BC system. And OPL was broken after 0.8 so it just got fixed

It is not because OPL doesn't emulate PSX and doesn't launch PSX games through any external emulator.

If You want emulating PSX on emulated PS2 ("we need to go deeper" ;p), run POPStarter+POPS from USB and place there games or run PS2PSXe. But... this doesn't have any sense! Why You want emulating PSX on PS2 emulator, while You have native PSX emulator in PS3 firmware? I don't get it.

I'm facing the same problem Atreyu had:
Every iso I try for OPL either freezes my PS3 or crashes back to XMB.
The only thing I'm doing different than in the manuals is using FTP from Multiman to upload the ISO to the PS2ISO folder instead of using an USB stick. As the manual says to copy the ISO to the internal HDD folder, I thought this shouldn't make any difference.
I even tried to create my own ISO as mentioned here before (could have been doing it wrong).
Did it on 2 European BC models (CECHC04) with the same results (tried it on Evilnat 4.88 before, but now they are on Evilnat CFW 4.89)
- Uploading ISO to PS3 using FTP
- In Multiman (Cobra Mode) go to the Retro part and start the ISO.

This method works for every other PS2 ISO I have... So I can play the games from HDD, but would like to play them from SMB.

Difference is simple: none of PS2 emulated software have access to environment outside. You cannot put disc image into "dev_hdd0/PS2ISO" and expecting that it will be recognized by OPL.

I was aware of that. My intentions were different though:
If I have OPL running on a PS3, would I be able to use the SMB function to start PS2 games via a network connection (I'm currently using my PS2 this way, but looking for a way to ditch the PS2)? Using dev_hdd0/PS2ISO as a game-source for OPL doesn't make sense, as the PS3 is already capable to run games from that location.
If so, what would be the most fail-safe way to start OPL on the PS3? I have a BC model (CECHC).

:) :) :)

Works 100% thankyou Berion!!!!!
opl_v1.1.0.7z <---- I really needed that.

I was just streaming (PS2) Final Fantasy XII from an external USB thumb drive using OPL to launch the game. I used WMM to launch OPL.
I did however notice that the cutscenes were choppy. It still has the problem of freezing/cutting out on the cutscenes.

Here's a screenshot of the settings I have in OPL on PS3: Do my settings look OK?

Now I am trying to get OPL to see PS2 games on PS3_NET_Server, is that possible?
If I stream the games via ethernet, it might fix the laggy cutscenes.

Hi, I was trying to run OPL with that ISO but my CECHC freezes on black screen. What model did you use to run it?

Same. E model having freeze on start. I got it working on an A model, from USB. But the FMV pausing/studdering is a dealvreaker. If there was a way to recreate the folder structure OPL is expecting and have it stored on the PS3 HDD that would be ideal.

hi. anyone here have encountered issues with games loading with smb? my cecha01 was pretty acting up and after playing games for a while, i will always get infinite loading or very slow loading depending on the games, like you're playing badly scratched disc. i have set up my pc directly connected to the ps3. what's more weirder is that with my real ps2 slim 90000 in place of the ps3, I didn't get any issue. I don't tend to play games for long hours of time per day but to me, seems okay.
