Why is it not possible to play an original PS2 disc on a non-BC PS3? And why does it function when it is ripped to the internal hard drive?

If the semi-BC ran PS2 games trough emulation and supported physical discs. Then why couldn't the Cobra team reintroduce the feature in the current emulator? I'm just curious would that be hard or impossible to do?This is more or less the story:
Near 2009, Sony first removed Emotion Engine from original fat models to reduce cost and introduced a new PS2 emulator for semi-BC that allowed to play PS2 games at a reduced cost. At that moment PS2 still had strong sales and having support on PS3 would compete with their still alive PS2 console.
Later they figured that they could sell us again the games we already bought completely removing the PS2 disc support with the excuse of cost reduction. As PS2 disc was not longer supported (because their plan of sell us PS2 Classics) all the newer consoles started to be non-BC and the disc feature was completely removed from the PS2 emulator.
Cobra Team found a way to bring back the PS2 disc support on BC/semi-BC and tried to capitalize that feature with Cobra-USB.
There was a different emulator back with the CECHG04 (40Gb) PlayStation3, dubbed PS2SoftEmu.self, this emulator was aimed to replicate the PS2GX_Emu from the CECHC/E models with a physical Graphics Synthesizer, into a Non-Backwards Compatible Machine, with support for optical discs. If the semi-BC ran PS2 games trough emulation and supported physical discs. So in theory if someone modified PS2Net_Emu to read from DVD instead of the mounted ISO it would be possible? There was a different emulator back with the CECHG04 (40Gb) PlayStation3, dubbed PS2SoftEmu.self, this emulator was aimed to replicate the PS2GX_Emu from the CECHC/E models with a physical Graphics Synthesizer, into a Non-Backwards Compatible Machine, with support for optical discs.
All was going well, until Sony came with a roadblock, since there was no physical Graphics Synthesizer, the GS Job had to be moved to the RSX, unfortunately, this didnt turn to be quite a efficient alternative for the PS2_Emu/PS2GX_Emu, as the emulator was buggy and a big mess, and at a point that Sony didnt even bother to optimize it, so they ditched it completely post 3.00 firmware.
The Emulator can only be accessed on a Phat Model with firmwares 2.80 and below, although ive seen a lad having it on a 3.55 Slim,by simply replacing the emulator files within the Dev_Flash, but this emulator can only be accessed with FSM, and not on the normal XMB.
After that Sony created the PS2Net_Emu, a more efficient alternative to the PS2Softemu.self, but this was only meant with PS2 Digital Titles in mind and only on specific games, DVD Support was never added to begin with, this proved a good opportunity for Sony to milk some money out of PS2 Nostalgia, and a great opportunity to get hacked and run PlayStation2 format titles that never made the cut.
PS2Net_Emu made quite a progress from the day it got hacked, from PS2 Classic Placeholder and Conversion, to a point that Cobra Payload takes care of it, like a BC Machine, instead of a read DVD you make yourself a Dump, and it emulates it like a optical drive.
PS2Net_Emu never intended to have DVD/CD support from the get-go, the architecture its completely different from PS2_Emu/PS2GX_Emu/PS2Softemu.self which do have DVD/CD support. So in theory if someone modified PS2Net_Emu to read from DVD instead of the mounted ISO it would be possible?
Ok that's clear, thank you!PS2Net_Emu never intended to have DVD/CD support from the get-go, the architecture its completely different from PS2_Emu/PS2GX_Emu/PS2Softemu.self which do have DVD/CD support.
Short Answer: No
