PS3 Parental Control within webMAN Mod, or other methods

Hello all,

First up, massive thanks to all who have contributed to developing the tools now available- unbelievable folks, well done!

To the issue at hand. I am converting my brother's old PS3 to be able to run all of our PS1, 2, 3 games in one place, without swapping discs (and damaging them + the disc drive), as well as Retroarch with our old Sega games. Everything so far has gone really well and I've got a good handle of how to use - operationally we're all good!

However, as younger children will be using the device as well, I want to have all of our content on there, but restrict access to the games I wouldn't want them to play. For those games & tools which are on there via pkg it looks pretty straight via using / modifying (.sfo) the parental controls. However, for those which are launched through webMAN games I've tried the last couple of days and haven't been successful in finding anything suitable.

Has anyone got any thoughts around how to do something in webMAN mod, or another path completely? @aldostools wondering if you might know Sir?

Thanks a bunch

You could try storing the restricted games in PS3ISO_1, PSXISO_1, PS2ISO_1

Put the non restricted games in PSXISO, PS3ISO, etc.

Select the profile 1 in /setup.ps3 and refresh XML when you want to access the restricted games.

Select any other profile to scan the unrestricted games.

Thanks for the quick response! and Happy New year!

Awesome, so it looks like it's "extended content profile" that I'm looking for then. I must admit feeling like a bit of a goose as it looks like you introduced that introduced 9 years ago!

PS3 - webMAN MOD 1.33.07 - Extended Content Profiles | PSX-Place

To test it, I've created a PS2ISO_1 folder, and moved an ISO folder+file I know was working to there. However, I've jumped into WM setup via the VSH menu, as I believe that opens setup.ps3?, but I'm not seeing anything that suggests profiles. I'm also not sure how one would execute the commands shown in the linked thread "/setup.ps3 or using /index.ps3?1 or /refresh.ps3?1".

I'm probably missing something obvious there and would appreciate your help re how to access the profiles please - it looks super promising for what I'm trying to do!

In /setup.ps3, expand the section IDPS & MEM Setup. Profile is the first option under the blue line:

Default = scan only PS3ISO, PSXISO, PS2ISO, PSPISO, etc.
1 = scan default folders plus PS3ISO_1, PSXISO_1, PS2ISO_1, PSPISO_1, etc.
2 = scan default folders plus PS3ISO_2, PSXISO_2, PS2ISO_2, PSPISO_2, etc.

Also you can select the profile using the following combos:
SELECT+L3+R2 = REFRESH XML profile1 (reload XMB when scan is done)
SELECT+L3+L2 = REFRESH XML profile2 (reload XMB when scan is done)
SELECT+L3 = REFRESH XML default (reload XMB when scan is done)

Currently I don't have access to my PS3 to verify if the feature is still working in the latest build. I know it has been working for years.

Perfect - I really should have seen it there myself sorry. I've tested and it's all working as you described, looks like we're good to go. Thank you so much.

Re: reload XMB. My expectation after selecting "Refresh webMAN Games & XMB" was that the games would then be available in webMAN Games. However, although the scan pops up a message stating the correct number of games, they don't get added to webMAN Games folders until I do something else and come back. This was the same before and after using profiles. I've got into the habit of switching users to force it, but is there a better way on HEN? I looked into the webMAN addons list, but Reload XMB wasn't in there - have you already embedded that functionality in the code, or should I install it manually?

Reload XMB is installed without an icon on XMB. It is launched through ★ app_home/PS3_GAME
It requires that app_home is checked in /setup.ps3

Here is the old standalone installer
