PS3 PKGi PS3 v1.2.2 released

Nice one! I added a few source files to the app, but pkgi after launching it, saying "Refreshing... 263647.06 kb". I left my Ps3 for about 15 minutes, but still refreshing, the console is not frozen, just the app itself. I also added the online database URLS to the file. I tried it without them as well, but same hangup. I have 7 game categories defined in my lists.

I don't know what kind of database you're trying to load, if it's not in the default .csv format defined by PKGi you'll need to create a "dbformat.txt" config file so it can be recognized, otherwise it won't work. Also, are you really trying to load a 263647 Kb file? that's 260 Mb!

For a simple test, remove everything and try this database file only, that includes NoPSN apps from nopsn.com:
https://www.psx-place.com/attachments/pkgi-txt.22340/

dont understand on how to use this it says error pkgi.txt files missing !?

You need to create a database file, the application doesn't include anything by default.

For a simple test, just try this pkgi.txt database file, and upload it to the PKGI app folder. (you should see a list NoPSN apps from nopsn.com):

After installing this i get error message that the txt file is missing. All my attemt to create one always failed. Why can not be the file be included with installer? Not all user are able to.make one. Where i can download one and use it. With no editing.

I've got to say - this is one of the coolest homebrew apps I've discovered in a while (I registered an account here just for it so that tells you something)

Seriously a game changer.

Just one problem - a download that takes 5 mins on my laptop takes 1.30hrs on PKGi-PS3 (same .pkg link).

I'm not sure why but there's a serious lag somewhere.

Any ideas?

No database files are included, and it's meant that way. I could only include homebrew stuff because those are free, but nothing else.

Are you using "direct download" or "background download"? you can try switching to background download mode, and it will use the original background downloader module on the XMB. That's probably the fastest you'll get on the ps3 hardware.
Just keep in mind, when you do a background download, you need to reboot the ps3 to get the XMB to start the download.

okay, I have installed the package, created pkgi.txt by converting NPS TSV file using the python code and placed in the correct folder in PS3 hdd. I load the program, and games are listed.
I press X to download a game, it downloads, says downloaded, then nothing.... No install, no file, No idea.... Help ! Lost
Have I forgotten to do something or make a folder of something else?
ZX

EDIT : Ignore this, I just figured it out... Network tab... d'oh

Getting about the same speeds - I think the bottleneck must be on the PS3 hardware. Thanks again for the awesome tool!

can you share the text file with me ,because i have no idea how to do this

Losing my mind here because for some reason I'm getting a 'pkgi.txt is missing or bad config.txt'

These are the files I have in my USRDIR directory. Anyone know why it isn't working?

I'll give it a look when I get home from work. Is my pkgi.txt file ok though?

PKGi should be able to handle any database file, as long as the dbformat.txt is properly formatted. If you look around in this thread you'll find comments from other users about how they made it work with different files.

Thanks. The last thing I'm curious about is how should my config.txt file look?

there's no need to edit the config.txt file, unless you want to add URLs to update pkg lists from the net

the settings like "no music" or sort order will be saved directly by the app

I don't understand sorry. I don't have a config.txt file at all. Do I need one?

just redo it over, might as well just go with tsv files rather than messing with pkgi.txt thingy (just leave it alone for homebrew stuff).

ive attached two files on this post, one is dbformat (dont touch this) and one for config (you need to edit this one).

edit the config.txt with each line corresponding on each category where the tsv files are found (google it for more info, cant link it here or the mods will not be happy about it and yappin about piracy or something. which is reasonable).

once done, make sure to delete your existing pkgi install and reinstall it, once done open a ftp connection to your PS3 and browse to dev_hdd0/game/NP00PKGI3/USRDIR and place those two files you downloaded earlier.

once done, just run pkgi, at first theres no list to download so press triangle and choose refresh, let it do its work and whoala, you can now download all you want.

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that I figured it out. What I did instead was just convert my .tsv file into my pkgi_games file and it loaded up just fine. Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.

Thank you @bucanero for this!

I can't seem to use background downloading. Don't see an option for it. Manual download works just fine.

If possible please do the following:
Add an option for just installing rap only. Like in the case where it shows which games are already installed (maybe add a filter for this?) and it would be good to have option to reinstall rap.
Maybe somewhere in Details options when you see if rap available or not, to be able to press a button to just reinstall rap. I think right now rap is installed only when downloading finished?

for background downloads, you need to open settings (triangle) then change the download mode to "Back. DL" in the Options section, and press triangle again to save settings.

Next time you download a .pkg, it will start in background dl mode. Note that you'll need to reboot the PS3 afterwards to make the background download start. (you'll find it on the XMB Network tab)

about the .raps, yes, right now the .rap is only downloaded after the .pkg has been completed. (or the background download task has been created successfully)
Adding an option to download just the .rap could be useful, indeed. If you can, open an issue on the GitHub project about the .raps so I can keep track of it for a future version. ( https://github.com/bucanero/pkgi-ps3/issues )

After the app downloads a game do I just install it or do I need to use rap2rif first on cfw?

.rap files will be saved on /dev_hdd0/exdata/ . Depending on your CFW, you might need to activate the content and create .rifs from those rap files. You can try to run the content, and if you need activation the PS3 will tell you that you need to activate it.
