What i meant is lets say... the diameter of an optical disc is 12cm... there is going to be some consoles where the disc slot is 14cm (it needs to be a bit bigger than the disc), and others could be 14.5cm... or 15cm... etc..

Perhaps I didn't word it very well, but this was what I was pointing out. There's no way the disc slot could be any smaller than the diameter of a disc. The slot could be bigger, as you say, but that would only make the console even bigger in comparison to the others.

Anyway, I think we've got a good idea of its approximate size. Personally I'm hoping we get a smaller, more plain looking hardware revision in a few years.

As much as I hate the design, I respect Sony for going for something different. It's only been a few days since it was revealed and it's already extremely divisive, lol.

And what about the router thing? I didn't see any high end router (asus, netgear, linksys, etc) having a design like the PS5, so wth dude? LOL.
But you can customize them for cheap

Another of the problems we have to calculate the size is the disc slot is located in a diagonal, look at this photo
ps5_on_its_side.jpg

Is taken from a perspective, this is the only way to see the real position of the disc slot
But when we look at it from a frontal perspective the length of the disc slot is going to be different

The point is we are dragging a bunch of deviations, i very hard to calculate the real sizes accuratelly, is better to wait for an official announcement, i guess this discussion about sizes is becoming very popular and eventually sony could clarify it in the next weeks/months (before release)
In the meantime... we can say the PS5 is roughtly "2 fingers width" bigger than the PS3 fat

Edit: a nice gif i just found:

My only point was that the original comparison pic I posted may not be accurate, but shows the absolute minimum size it could be, even when accounting for the disc slot being recessed slightly.

Two fat fingers perhaps :wink new:

@ElGris Kubrick was ahead of his area. But this have nothing to do with this design, everything else in this film (computers etc.) is from current perspective old as hell.

Dave, You must agree with me. ;}

It feels quite different in horizontal perspective.

I wonder how big will be the Ps5 Pro… But I wish there won't be any mid-gen consoles, directly a eventual PS6 in 2027/28.

In my oppinion is very probable that they are going to release a new "pro" model where the only change is going to be a bigger amount of graphic cores

The strong point of XSX is the amount of graphic cores, probably sony will try to focus his attention in that... the problem is when sony releases the "PS5 pro" microsoft is going to release the "XSX pro" too, with more graphic cores and more raw power

But in my oppinion sony have already won this round of the "console wars", because the XSX arquitecture is pretty much like an standard PC, so microsoft needs to "fight" against the standard PC user base... good luck with that :encouragement:

Sony has been a lot more smarter imo, his arquitecture is very special and there are some features that are very far away of what a standard PC can do, and this is going to be like that for several years, dont expect to see any "kraken" hardware de/compresor implemented in AMD or INTEL products or cores dedicated to 3D audio, or a coprocessor with 2 cores dedicated to SSD/RAM management at high speeds, or custom SSD NVMe devices using 12 data channels with 6 levels of prority, etc...
All that features are going to be exclusive for the PS5 for the years to come... so sony is going to be "the rare device" in the incoming generation, they got that for sure

I personally think it looks like a router. Also think its ugly as hell, doesn't match anything else in my entertainment setup so will stick out like a sore thumb. Not sleek looking at all.
I get that Sony released white editions of past consoles, but that was a choice. White appliances, to me, are dishwashers, freezers and washing machines. I've always preferred that sleek black design for devices.

Exactly. The quality of hardware, internal dynamics, heat dissipation, ventilation etc is the thing that really matters. Not so much on how it looks from outside.

I personally don't mind consoles / or any electronics to be a little big & bulky if this means a better internal dynamics and ventilation.

I think PS5 will have much more games they still have unannounced games as ceo said, exclusives define a console, sony has been proving that for years.

it would be a drop if they announced at 349 the digital and 399 the full package, although realistically expect a 500 price tag.

First accurate comparison pics of the two, sorry for the bad quality on the actual console, I tried to touch it up but there's no official transparent image I can use yet for obvious reasons
