What's the current donation status anyway? How much do you need to keep the lights on for another 3 years?
Assuming that the Toolset project remains accessible by the public, the required funding depends on a few things, including whether or not we merge **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) and .net hosting (which we might end up doing eventually in October, we are currently talking about it).
I will try to keep things simple, without merger, for a proper setup, better than the current one because the Toolset may potentially begin to support all fw versions from 4.10 up, I estimate the next renewal bill for .net to be something like this for a 3 year basis:
220 unlimited shared hosting (using a 50% lifetime discount I have with the hosting company, it should normally be 450)
270 custom SSL certificate
720 cloudflare pro
= that's about 1200 bucks (400 per year) to pay upfront.
That doesn't include domain name renewals, for now the domain names are handled by esc0 and I cannot remember how much they cost, .net shouldn't really cost more than 30 bucks for 3 years or something like that but I dunno the exact figure.
Currently the donations received through ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com to cover the hosting renewal amount to about 600 bucks (some donations went to **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) too, hard to tell when it's a mistake or not, it does not matter anyway, esc0 needs donations as much as I do at the end of the day).
Thanks to all donators, on behalf of everyone else.
You should know that there were few donors overall, 2 or 3 donors provided half the total amount. It is not a good sign for the long term, it means that the greatest majority by far don't care at all, for the same result, it would be a lot healthier for the community if 300 people had donated 2 bucks each IMHO.
If donations don't reach 1200 bucks, choices would have to be made, we would probably have to give up on the Cloudflare services the site needs, keeping in mind that attacks are quite frequent on both domains (DDOS, flooding attempts etc..), probably more so on .com.
With the merger, well it would depend on how we decide to handle domains (keep only one domain?) and SSL for .com projects and files, because to add SSL support to the .com services if we keep 2 domains we would need either an additional cert or a multi domain SSL certificate which is about 3 times more expensive and only makes sense when you host files with SSL for 3+ domains.
Alternatively we could also use one domain and 2 sub domains then use a wildcard SSL certificate (about twice the price of a regular cert).
Also, if we merge, it will be more problematic to do without Cloudflare Pro, a target figure of 1400 or 1500 would have to be reached in full for any merger to go ahead in October.
Btw I estimated the cost of the community hosting concept I mentioned before, to consolidate console related scenes hosting on the long term to about 1800 to 2000 bucks every 3 years for shared hosting with unlimited storage & bandwidth, unlimited number of domains and sites, as well as custom SSL support compatible with most consoles with browsers..
Not much more than what we need to set up a ps3xploit site merger, in truth, the more I consider that idea, the more I think it would be by far the best decision all round for the community.. at the condition it organises to fund and manage it.
1000 people giving 60 cents each year, that's roughly what's needed to fund such a service, offering all devs and contributors free hosting with long term visibility without taking on responsibilities or commitments, in other words the community would take on the burden collectively and let those guys focus solely on their game ie development.
Of course, it would also require a few people, with some hosting experience if possible, to take turns in holding the hosting creds, vetting new projects and contributors, adding new sites, a little admin work and host housekeeping from time to time, nothing crucial once the host has been properly set up.
I don't think finding a few trusted people to handle that stuff in turns would be very difficult, the job shouldn't be very time consuming.
Also is that the only issue preventing the 4.89 update other things as well (I don't need it personally but this will definitely be needed if the tool is going to remain online).
No it's not, the renewal is in October, until then the site is up and running.
The main issue is security, I don't want to roll out the planned 1.2 update because the leak risk is too great.
I don't want to go over the top on a fool's errand, js and actionscript cannot be fully protected, period, if skilled hackers wish to get hold of it, there is nothing much you can do about it. But then again, I cannot leave things as they are, it would be too easy for less skilled people to get hold of private files now that related data has been leaked and they are the most likely to try, so I am still pondering over what to do about it.
I never tried to secure the site in the first place, I felt there was no need, skilled hackers have little or nothing to gain by leaking my work, it's freely accessible and it gets updated regularly, it would only be to spite me and I doubt that any of them would bother or have reasons to, especially that I said many times that anyone wishing to build upon my work could contact me to discuss code sharing and possibly opening the source entirely if the project was good enough to warrant that, consequently the security has always been minimal, just enough to discourage script kiddies and the likes. It lasted 2 years without breach, considering the very low key and flawed PHP security, I should probably be happy enough with that though, like I said before, Murphy's law, whatever can happen will eventually happen if you wait long enough.
Regarding support for 4.89, I could add it to the live 1.1 Toolset version without any other changes, I am taking time off right now but when I can I will do it, it shouldn't take long, it's a trivial addition, the existing code is ready for it, at most a few minutes to make the code changes. However I never release anything that's untested so I will have to ask esc0 to test my modifications before they go live..
