PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Right i might have found a good game to test the overclock with, using bioshock infinite and using the intro to the game as a benchmark. The reason this game is a perfect candidate is due to its ability to unlock the frame rate within settings.

(P.S random video i found on YT, but it shows the differance on a standard console)

Now all we need is the ability for the plugin to log the 99% percent FPS and the average FPS into a txt document or something.

PoC Release/Project: USE AT YOUR RISK
(Hardware Flasher Recommended)

  • Project RSX Boost: Boost your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds
    .

The goal of the project is simple, overclock RSX to achieve some fps boost in games and vsh while maintaining stability in the operating system and games themselves.

Currently it comes in two bundles (credits to M4j0r for the modified lv1.selfs) (update: Added in CFW's):
    1. Core Speed of 550 Mhz
    2. Core Speed of 600 Mhz.

The bundles (attached below) are a modified version of Evilnat 4.88.1 CFW lv1 (the regular version). The boosts can be achieved through lv1 poke as well, but you have to restart lv1 in order for them to succeed.

Perhaps Joonie can make some CFWs? or @haxxxen can integrate it on his ps3mfw? (update: patches have been added to CFW)

    DECR Models Only

    LV1 RSX Speeds DECR
    Notes:
Core Normally Runs at 500 or 550 and Memory at 650
Core Can Run Stable at 600 for VSH and Games, but there's a chance it can crash
Core Can Run at 650 for VSH Only, GAMES WILL CRASH lcnslsrv -at -ip ip -hd directory -g Files:

    https://www24.zippyshare.com/v/yrfzK8...
    Speeds Description inside each one.

Needs EEPROM Flag toggled for it to load (check my other videos) or a cfw made (rebug 4.84).

    Supported Speeds
    Core 600 Mhz

    Memory 700 725 750 775 Mhz

  • Updates
    .
RSX Overclock Patches added to CFW.
(USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, Hardware Flasher Recommend for tester's
note: not all models have been tested & RSX patches are still experimental)
Caution: If your PS3 has overheating issue's, Overclocking the RSX can be very dangerous. When using these experimental CFW's be sure to keep an eye on your internal temps. PHAT console should exercise additional caution over Slim console's.

    New Plugin (FPS/Temp)

Overclocking can potentially carry extreme risk to your hardware depending on your PS3 Models / Environment, Also take note this is still an experimental Project and caution should be used.

Hello! I'm pretty noob with this, I was able to update to the unofficial EVILNAT 4.88 w/ RSX OVERCLOCK 600 750 on my CECH2501b and it runs great, do I need to do anything else to enable the OC? running games and getting little to no framrate increases or little to no increase in temperatures of RSX or CELL

Very niche benefit with this, but I enjoy doing 3D gaming with the PS3 and I noticed that after using this overclock with Black Ops 1 Zombies that it made the framerate SO much smoother. I haven't installed the FPS counter, but I want to say it probably went from around 20 fps to somewhere between 30-40 FPS in 3D

So far I've tried on two Slim 2504A consoles for 2 weeks.
Evilant 4.88.2 with RSX 600/750

Tested games (listed by playtime):
Diablo 3
Dead Island
NFS Most Wanted (PS2 emulated)
The Walking Dead Season 2
DJ Hero 2
Demons Souls
Resistance: Fall of Man

No issues noticed, every lagg and freeze not out of ordinary. Diablo 3 and DJ Hero 2 are freezing as usual.
I'd say as for 2 consoles it's doing as out of the factory. All the freezes probably comes from Evilnat's system with Cobra 8.3.
Temps normal, didn't notice any anomalies, no issues in games listed above (voltage is default so it probably doesn't matter, Cell always higher than RSX)

Thank you for this mod.

Bonjour mon ami @aldostools

When I launch @TheRouLetteBoi's SPRX (whom I thank very much) by the L3+R3 combo I have all the figures displayed but I have no value in the Fan Speed line, it is at 0% permanently (as long as I stay in front of my screen).
Can you fix this or tell me how to fix it if possible ???

Also, and if you have it, could you send me by MP the Cobra v8.3 that I lost inadvertently. These files are called "stage2.cex" and "stage2.dex", they must be for a console in "Rebug-4.84.2 REX" only (no EVILNAT).

Tous mes remerciements par avance.

Bonjour mon ami @Algol,
Thank you for your report. In my tests, the Fan Speed is showing properly. It may take a moment to show it, while it's searching in memory the offsets for the CPU/GPU clock speeds.

However after some tests I had to revert it to VshFpsCounter 2.2 MOD because the builds 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 were crashing randomly on my system. Probably due the code used by @TheRouLetteBoi to show the CPU/GPU clock speeds

The requested Cobra payloads are found in this page:

Here is the opposite :P

Version 2.2 freezes my system after launching/exiting a game more than 2 times and v2.5 runs perfectly

@aldostools ...

You say that the fan speed at your place is (was) displayed after a few moments. So be reassured, before I installed the CPU/GPU speed boost it was the case with me, on the contrary, I had no system hangs before and after the games. I very rarely had system gels that I didn't understand, you may be right !!!
Tomorrow, I will set up your new webMAN, I will inform you of the results on my CECH-2504b under Rebug-4.84.2 REX v8.3 (600/750MHz).

Passe une très bonne journée, mon ami.

In the latest build I reverted to VshFpsCounter 2.2. If you want to see CPU/GPU you will have to copy the latest plugins from TheRouletteBoi's repository until he fixes the freeze issue.

The previous installers are replaced. It would requires me to download a previous commit, rebuild the PKG, upload, etc.

It's too much hassle... just download the latest package (use the built-in updater), download the VshFpsCounter 2.5 and replace the one in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_res/VshFpsCounter.sprx
(use FTP to upload the file or copy it to an USB disk and use a file manager).

EDIT:
I re-included the version 2.5 of VshFpsCounter. The freeze that I was experiencing occurred in Cobra debug. In that scenario wMM now starts 2.2

I am still testing and running underclock 400MHz/550MHz and now I had some 2x tripple beep shutdown. this seems not stable :(

edit
btw, I have feeling loading XMB and ingame XMB with underclock makes it a bit laggy/delayed

Interesting, but that underclocks are a bit extreme, probably is going to be more stable with something like 450/600 (substracting 50MHz each)
Patch RSX clock (core)
-400MHz
-450MHz
-500MHz (default)
-550MHz
-600MHz

Patch RSX clock (memory)
-550MHz
-575MHz
-600MHz
-625MHz
-650MHz (default)
-675MHz
-700MHz
-725MHz
-750MHz
If is still unestable with 450/600... well... it looks like is going to be needed to remove some of the underclock patch settings from the MFW, starting by removing the combination you are using right now with 400MHz/550MHz (what we was previously considering that was the minimal values) because doesnt seems to be usable :(

yup, exactly what I want to try. so next stop on this long road for me, 450MHz/550MHz :D
the shutdown happened right after I have started a pkg game, without anything was loaded on screen. and before I have done a few different things, like playing PS2 game, installing pkg, running BD game and after that running that pkg game. this probably is because of memory speed, cause core speed should not interfere with game loading (at least what I think)

this will be hard to test, but in the end I will remove all unstable clock speeds from script

edit
some sidenote, the temps get more equal on CELL and RSX doing underclocking

Why would anybody want to underclock? Undervolt I get, but underclock? What good would come if that?
I guess most people interested in underclock is because they wants to dedicate the PS3 to homebrew development (instead of playing demanding games)
In that case the performance requirements are low because usually the homebrew projects doesnt uses graphic libraries very demanding (in other words, are not much dependant of the RSX performance), for developent everything "should" work pretty much the same while underclocked... but have the benefit of lower noise levels (smaller fan speeds)
This lower noise levels could be handy for people that have the PS3 placed in a desktop (at less than 1 meter from her/his head)... this desktop setups could be annoying, specially with fatties

i already explained what each rar does. rsx has two speeds, core and memory. first rar is core +50 second rar is core +100. memory varies in 4 ranges (+25, +50, +75, + 100)
Will it work cex hfw 4.88.1 with hen 3.0.3? Do you know PS3 is Cech 4202c
