PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

I heard 650 isnt stable but has anyone tried a 630mhz overclock?

The GPU Clock speed is set in multiple of 50Mhz (e.g. 600mhz or 650mhz).
The GDDR3 RAM Clock speed is set in multiple of 25Mhz (e.g. 700mhz or 725mhz or 750mhz).

If you want to test 4.89 Evilnat with GPU Clock @ 600Mhz & GDDR3 RAM Clock @ 750Mhz, Check the post #449

If you use SD display, you will need to apply the sandungas' fix for 4.89
https://github.com/aldostools/Resou...isplay_by_sandungas_req_dev_blind_enabled.pkg
(The writeable flash device /dev_blind must be enabled to allow the installation of this pkg)

Could someone please do a test with exclusive games? I'm interested in seeing the difference in Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4).

The SD display issue is a bug introduced by Sony in Official Firmware 4.89 that breaks the layout of several XMB features including Remote Play, package installer, etc. when SD display 272p or 480p is used. It may affect also 576p.

@sandungas investigated the cause in detail and found a fix. He explains the bug here:

272p??? but I thought that the PS3 had a minimum resolution of 480i (and is 272p a game resolution? because it sounds weird, I've only heard of 240p) :/

That slim is not delidded. Just fresh compound on the ihs.

But i did a delid on my A01 and gave it a 65nm rsx transplant and an aps-231 upgrade.
On that one, rsx hovers around 55c with same fans.

Ah I see, interesting, I had once a Slim (not delided, not overclocked) and it needed at least 34% of fan speed to keep those temperatures like yours.

And which model of PS3 Slim is yours? (2000, 2100, 2500)?

And btw, if you're planning on deliding a PS3 Slim, keep this in mind:

About heating the RSX (GPU) and using a screwdriver to delid it: not all PS3 are the same, that method works well with fat PS3, but in PS3 slim (models 2500 / 3000) the glue on the RSX VRAM is stronger, so it's more difficult, and you might break the union of the BGA under the RSX, and also the motherboard of a PS3 slim seems more fragile (less thick) so it could bend or break more easily.

just small questions:
1. is safe?
2. is possible to make that on hfw?

According to what I've read:

1. Safe? well it depends, is not completely safe, and in fat models is more risky, also if your PS3 is overheating, don't try it.
2. Not on HFW, it can only be done on PS3 models with CFW.

My slim is 2102A which is 40nm RSX and 45nm CELL.
Seriously 34% is not far off and keep in mind, different loads/games = different temps and speeds. I set Max 64c in webman mod and it just stays cool and quiet.
After applying Artic Silver 5 (no delid), i saw very nice temp drops. About 5-7c.
Keep in mind, it was only after about day 5 of heavy on/off (hot/cold) cycles where i saw the best benefits of the thermal paste due to AS5's cure time.

Good info about later slims glue on die.
But i don't think slims need a delid unless ofcourse witnessing 70-80c temps even after fresh paste.

Has anyone tested the OC on a A00 or A01 ?
Is there any Data on that?

Nevermind.
Was waiting for data but my curiosity and lack of patience i tried it myself.
Fat 65nm A01.
All good after some graphic intensive runs.

Between the RSX overclock and a 2TB SSD now in my PS3, this thing is night and day different in the overall feel of UI snappiness.

The bugged 272p file only affects XMB (not ingame), and is used for remote play to PSP/PSV/PC, they choosed that filename because is the height of the PSP screen in pixels (480x272)
The remote play feature is downsampling the image (of both, XMB that usually is running at 1080p, and ingame usually running at 720p) to 480x272 with a video codec "on the fly" and sending it by network

Been running 4.88 OC for about a week now on my Slim. No crazy cooling mods (a few holes over the fan and perforated bottom) and fan speed 40%.

So far keeping temps around 62-65°C on both CELL and RSX.

I have to say it's a rather neat thing.

same temp of me on slim 2.40 without oc...
sometimes I have a conflict with manual ps2 Temps with cfw tools options and webman mod options... idk why but every reboot I need to press on example 40% ps2 fan or game start with standard fan settings and ps3 shutdown randomly (and idk how people with purchased games pkg can play ps2 games on ofw in summer time) here 40c center italy 200m from the sea

sorry for noob question but how to jump on #fff post?

Have the overclock on 2 systems running 4.89cfw. Fat A01 and Slim 2102A.
Running everything butter smooth.
Only issue i have on the A01 randomly crashes when i load FPS via webman (R3+L3) on the OC.

also if you have the latest version of webman you can go to the internet browser and enter this command to edit the overlay as you like

0/edit.ps3/dev_hdd0/tmp/wm_res/VshFpsCounter.yaml
