PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

I believe we should start testing one by one.

Starting with 700MHz/800MHz and increasing in 50MHz increments, sharing screenshots using the FPS counter plugin with the FPS/Temperature/Fan Speed and Clock speeds overlays turned on.

Otherwise, this will lead to nothing. Each of us is using different clocks and no one is sharing the results.

I'm not sure if it's safe to share the .PUPs here. @STLcardsWS, what do you think? Of course, we'll add warnings, but it's mainly for testing and gathering more feedback.

@cha0shacker, @Thimblewad @XDeltaOne and @haxxxen .

It's crucial that the person creating the PUP has a hardware flasher in case the PUP is bad made, as sharing it without testing could brick other users' devices.

Maybe can @haxxen provide us the PUPs?
So to give you my personal results
PS3 CECH-2104B (40nm RSX):

700/750 is the highest that worked fine so far.

I tested 750/750 and got incorrect geometry rendering in NFS Carbon and after around 30 seconds a hard crash.

So I reinstalled 700/750 to just search for artifacts and rendering issues. Didn't really find any apart from the first Crysis but im not sure if it's just the game being stupid or it is the OC.

I wasn't able to test higher memory speeds so far because I don't trust myself with the MFW build tool and I don't have a hardware flasher.

I did ask Nathan about the next CFW release and he offered to make me a personal 650/800 version (i asked for those exact clock speeds to be on the safe side for personal long terms usage as i dont quite trust the 700MHz). I didnt get that file so far but then Nathan is very busy as usual so im sure i get it, just not soon.

sorryme, I had to release the upload on google drive but now it is fine

just thought about it, maybe I will make only patches, so you will only update modified coreos without devflash and hardware pkgs

tbh, I do not like to upload whole MFW's and especially not based on CFW's, due to respect of devs behind it. besides, I cannot test myself CEX or DEX, cause I have "slaughtered" my CECHL for some parts for my 1400A and it is not my way of releasing untested (potentially dangerous) stuff.

though, I have thought about uploading all of the possible variants with diff patches

I couldn't acess the link before, now i see, it's a simple patch with just drag and drop.

Nice, IMO it's safer than using MFW as one could apply wrong patches.

Does it allow the user to choose the clocks? I can't test it as I'm without my pc

it is just a diff patch, which has to be applied on original Evilnat 491 BETA4 (patcher included)

another thought, to create homebrew, which only overwrites lv1.self, so you just have to provide already patched lv1.self

It's a nice idea, also, adding some checks to check the integrity of the lv1.self would prevent bricks.

There is always a disclaimer with these things. You (as the owner of the PS) are responsible for any mods that are done to it. So if you flash an untested .pup on your PS and brick it, it's your own responsibility. That's why we need someone with a HW flasher to try the thing and let other people know "hey, it didn't completely brick my PS so maybe you can try to at least boot XMB". We're not talking about crazy frequencies like 800/1000, but just as @LuanTeles mentioned, a build with 650/800 to see where it goes. There's no way it will crash right away (recovery menu will work). Also, with HW flasher available, we can eliminate these problems.

Also: what is a HW flasher? Does that mean soldering wires to the PS debug pins and dropping something to it? I'd love to try it so again, if someone is knowledgable here, I'm happy to help everyone <3

Edit: Sorry, didn't see all the posts but still, what I said stands <3

I readded mfw builder to c:/program files x(86) earlier today. I think all I make should work, but I don't know how stable it will be. However, I don't even have a cfw system let alone a flasher.

@Thimblewad
it does make a difference, if it was made by a random inactive user or a known member or developer, who usually test their own creations. you won't expect something malicious from a known and respected user, and if it will happen, he will loose all the trust.

I can tell for myself, cause I have experienced such a brick in past, without flasher and a modified coreos file. my luck was, I already had a flasher at hand and could recover the brick immediately. since then, I do not use a PS3 without flasher and even my DECR has one permanently installed

and yeah, having a 100% working hardware flasher, does mean soldering. those plug'n play clips are crap if you ask me

no whitespaces in path are mandatory, when using mfwbuilder. besides, I just remembered, you have to copy the "ps3keys" folder, to the user root directory, cause old fail0verflow tools still expect this path for keys

Currently, I'm conducting tests on the 650/700 and 700/750 ranges, and everything seems to be functioning well at this stage. I'll update this post with additional information and screenshots as
needed.

Big thanks to @cha0shacker for providing me with access up to 750/800. I'll be sharing the outcomes in this post shortly.

Could anyone suggest a game that heavily utilizes the RSX? I'm looking to conduct comparisons.

The Last Of Us, GTA V, Need For Speed Carbon, GT6

For comparisons, unfortunately, I don't have titles like The Last Of Us, GTA V, Need For Speed Carbon, or GT6. However, I'll check for artifacts as a reference point, although my temps are consistently high even without overclocking.

But as i can see, they are pretty much the same, i'll keep my fan on manual 50% for the comparisons.

What titles do you have? I can point out the demanding ones ;)
