My temps are always lower than 60°C and I still get artifacting so I'd say temperatures are not the reason.
Did you check any more versions from cha0s?
 
OK, i just set my fan to syscon and let both my systems 2001A and 2501B get hot

Well, i didn't get any artifact at all, so i'm lucky

I just installed 800/750, but unfortunatelly i'll have no time to test in game. only tomorrow.

On 700 core i let my RSX reach 84C and had no artifacts. So i guess that counts for something

Can it run Crysis?

We now know basically where the core tops out at. 800 is possible but unstable and really artifact free is 700 core. Now we need to find out how far we can push the memory.

Okay, regarding Drakengard 3, 700/750 OC give a little more stable experience. "little".
This game is so unoptimized...
Well, I noticed a spot at the beginning of the game, near a fire, where framerate drops are especially noticeable.
~+2 fps at 700/750 :eagerness:
... Better than nothing I guess !

I'll do more testing tomorrow, with MGS4 for example. And maybe higher clocks too. My CECH-2004B is still working great, temps are ok, no artifacts in game.

For context :
• Arctic MX4 thermal paste quite recently applied
• Resolution : 1280x720p (IMO, 1920x1080 is a bit senseless/useless for this gen.)
• Ambient temperature : ~16°C

In my tests, with each increase of 50Mhz we gained 2~4 fps, the differences between temperatures are minimal.

Probably 850Mhz core will keep some rsx unoptimized games at 30fps.

There are many games that are unfortunately CPU limited (GTA games, RDR etc.)

There is already many games that are now able to push stable 30 FPS. Even OG Crysis with 700 Mhz is able to hold a stable 30 fps, on 600 it would drop down to 25 and lower at many times.

Going from the stock clock of 500 MHz and hitting a wall at 700 MHz is still a 40% overclock, that is insane. If you go to 750 and are still stable, that's an increase of 50%, which is unheard of in the overclocking world not counting results with LN2 :D

I remember back in the day overclocking my AMD Phenom 955 X4 from 3.2 GHz to 4.2 GHz without touching voltage and it was such a nice achievement :D

There's probably also a chance we could do more with slight voltage mods, but that isn't possible right now. +25mV or +50mV won't do any damage to the GPU but could easily give us 100 MHz more.

@cha0shacker - I'll be getting to the memory limits in the afternoon. ;)

@LuanTeles, @cha0shacker - also, a big thanks to both you for taking so much time in improving this RSX OC project and letting me help with the testing. If the community worked together like this more frequently, I believe we could have many, many nice things :)

You clearly didn't play early gen PS3 titles.
1024x576 was the norm vs 1280x720 on Xbox 360

It's basically the reason why I settled for 650 core for the daily overclock. Everything that still can't hit the target with a 30% core OC has different problems than just core clock.

True, I did not. Except GTA IV which we all know that it looks like a blurry mess. I only got a PS3 last year, after wishing I had one since I was like... 10 years old :')
And yes, you're absolutely right about the OC.

I'm settling on 700 core, it's stable in all games. We will see today where we can go with memory.
 
A friend of mine just tested on the first Phat model

The results so far:

700/750 = Working
750/750 = Crashes in game
800/750 = Crashes in game

First models of rsx doesn't handle overclock well and it's better not to use because of YLOD.

@Thimblewad / @Mitsu™ are you going to test 800 core?

I'm afraid that maybe i will not have time today.

@cha0shacker the next step is to test CELL OC :P

Nice, for me its working, try higher clocks for memory, ch4os uploaded up to 975... at least we know some people are using 1000mhz. I don't think we should test higher than 1000mhz for memory.

I have tested up to 850 MHz on memory and it is working fine. Patching 900 now. Maybe a sweet spot would be 700 core and 800+ something memory, let's see :D

Later, if you can, please, could you test some games on 800 core just to see if they run or not? I know you will have some artifacts based on your previous results, but i wonder if the other games will still work.
