PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

Just curious, does it have to be the max stable overclock, or the maximum it'll take? I have a 2003B doing nothing that I guess I can sacrifice.
It has to be Max stable. Why would anyone want to see artifacts and random crashing? When we say my console does xx OC we mean that's the Max fully stable stress tested OC. Ready for gaming long term. Some games can handle higher OC without artifacting depending on the engine or load. But eventually temperature or a specific game will show you it's obvious instability. You never want instability in any game.

Well, I went ahead and played slightly safer to avoid a bricc, going with 650/850. Reason is that I don't have a Teensy, nor a SYSCON reader/writer at the moment.

So far GTA5 has responded well, and am in process of getting Crysis HD as well.

I might also try Assassin's Creed 3 after Crysis.

Could I solicit your RSX info from the LV1 dump? And the syscon errorlog dump as well. You can easily dump both using evilnat's CFW tools menu.

For the LV1 info, open it in HxD and search for your current OC timings. In your case "650/875" and it should jump strait to the info I need.

Here you go @RIP-Felix, I have attached some pictures, I hope this is what you are looking for.

This PS3 slim originally had a bad CR2032 battery, that's why the syscon error code has the year 1999. It's been replaced with a new one while I repasted the chips.

Yes, GTA 5 with OC on a PS3 now performs at a near solid 30 FPS. 650/850 is also a great OC to keep on a 20XX slim, you don't need to push any further than that.

And we have some Crysis as well. Holy moly I am totally dumb at playing this game, so getting this far was definitely a feat.:highly amused:

Guys should i buy a used 2504B is a good model for overclock?
Any 25XX will be good for overclocking. That's at least 700/850 guaranteed, which is truly a sweet spot.
If you really want to overclock higher than that, you want to search for 0D/1A date codes. Or December 2010/January 2011 depending on your region.
Keep in mind that date codes aren't totally accurate regarding the RSX revision you'll get (Sony getting rid of old stocks).

what a exciting topic, made me feel alive once again!!
just got a CECH-2106A Slim.
what's the suggested oc values for this one?
ps:not a pro tho, just wanna squeeze a bit more fps for daily usage.

thx in advance!

650/850. Despite having a 40nm RSX, it is the earliest revision possible - 5300AGB - which likely won't do further than a 2000 slim, given the CECH-2100 mainboards seem to be fairly similar to 2000.

Just curious, does it have to be the max stable overclock, or the maximum it'll take? I have a 2003B doing nothing that I guess I can sacrifice.
Preferably stabke, for my stats. I'm trying to establish an average of stable overclocks, not the unstable region.

Do your diligence. Start with the 600/750 OC which is pretty safe for every console. Work your way up cutiously. Nobody can say install this, it's guarinteed to work. Take any such staments with a grain of salt.

I've seen a 21xx go as high as 700/950, which is on par with 25xx models that have the same CXD5300 from TSMC. Sony fabbed 40s tend to go a bit higher. The likelyhood of getting one depends on model, date, lot numbers, and region. Simply put, it's not 100% predictable or easy to find.

I know, it wasn't necessary to make a video about this game since it's the same engine as Ground Zeroes BUT that way, all the MGS have been tested (except the compil, but well...) and I'll sleep better ! x)

I need more 65nm console data from their max overclocks. I couldnt make a good graph of their averages with the small sample size. 650 core seems to be about the average, but 800 on VRAM should be doable on all models. Even 90nm.

800 vram is good on me but 900 vram killed my console last week.

guys i found my flash backup before the overclock session, can you check it if i can send here?

700/800 is good on my 2004a before its death @RIP-Felix

The reason it does that is because the FW you have on one of your ROS banks is from a firmware that's newer than the last time PS3 dump Checker's hashlist was updated. You can add the hashlists back into it so that it will work. Ps3pychecker has been updated more recently with FW hashlists, so it found 490 and didn't return any dangers. As stated, it's fine.

Thanks to you felix. Maybe i can recover my console again and go try some overclocks for your database about slims mate :)

I tried to make videos comparing stock vs OC like mitsu, but with a moderate OC (700/900mHz)
I wanted to see if the OC helped Max Payne 3 (terrible framerate in the 10s), BO2 (targets 60 but rarely achieves it) and TLOU
The results are mixed unfortunately. It does help BO2, but only when no zombies are on screen. As for TLOU it locks the framerate to 30 when the stock PS3 is strugling at 24-27fps, but only during real time custscenes. My guess is that scripts and AI tank the framerate during gameplay.
Max Payne 3 gains nothing from the OC. idk how I played this game over and over back in the days, it's a slideshow as soon as there's some action
Tell me if i should change something.
