PS1 disc swapping on CFW ps3

Hi all,

I've been searching all over the internet to find an easy way to swap discs when playing PS1 games. The webman mod method doesn't work for me. The Eboot method is too much of a hassle. Is there any easy way to swap ps1 discs for multidisc games in 2022?

Thank you

Exactly what steps did you try? It works fine by simply selecting the 'disc' you want when prompted by the game. I think unmounting first works as well, but by just selecting the next disc wMM will automatically unmount the current one.

I just can't find my console's IP address. Not even in multiman. Everywhere I look for it, it says "unavailable".

i recommend irisman, if you use that you can swap discs as long as you have them named correctly, to switch discs at a switch disc screen just put in or remove a usb drive (any that can be read on the ps3, doesnt matter what is on it as long as your PS3 can see it)
EDIT- just name the BIN/CUE files so the filenames are the same but have a number after them to make Irisman load them in order so MGSCD1 then MGSCD2 for cd1 and cd2

That is so helpful. Thank you. So does the usb need to be of a certain format? Can I put in a drive to one slot while the other drive is connected to my external hdd?

It is under System Information on the XMB, provided your PS3 is connected to your network. If it says "Unavailable" it sounds like it is not connected as if it was it will be something like 192.168.x.x which is an address on your Local Area Network.

i haven't tested too much, i only tested with a usb fat32 but you could see what works for you, just make sure your PS3 can read it (put it in and see if its detected under videos in XMB or in a filemanager), the slot shouldn't matter but i always used slot1, mess around and see what works for you, i used a 4gb memory stick formated in fat32 and MBR (ps3 cant read GPT) that has very slow read speed and played games off my internal drive but it should work with external too, i think irisman just needs any kind of input just to know when to switch disc
there is probably more info around if you do a search for Irisman Disc Swap
EDIT: Let us know how you get on, and what works for you, it could help others in the future

you can do it with multiman if not using cobra mode, is the same way of irisman

Multiman has 2 possible modes, multiman and multiman Cobra Mode or mmCM.
You can switch between the 2 inside the multiman menu.

Reporting back:

I tried multiman (in multiman mode) and it failed to run PS1 games entirely. I just got a black screen. I tried it in cobra mode, but it wouldn't recognise a disc change.
I then triediririsman, which also doesn't recognise a disc change when I remove and put in a flash drive.
It seems that I have two options left, either try again with the webman mod and get it to work, or just write the game images on physical CDs and put them in manually, would that work?

Ok first you checked the drive works when you just put it into the ps3 right ? after that check the filename of the game, keep it simple and make sure the files are named exactly the same but the LAST NUMBER has to be 1 then 2 (if you put something like CD1 NTSC at the end it WONT WORK, so put it simple like MGSCD1 and MGSCD2)
and make sure you only put the drive in, dont remove it again right away or it will switch, if you have a USB drive that flashes when in use it helps to see since you can see if its reading it and also try different USB slots, i only ever use the same slot, if none of this still works im sorry i can't help more, i tested this on 4.82 Rebug with Cobra enabled (never saw need to update past that since i don't play online).
And yes switching phsical CD's would work and webman should work (never tried it for disc swapping), but PS1 Classics format isn't too hard to setup if you want to go that route.

EDIT: Also make sure both CD's are in the same folder and not seperate subfolders

Just use pop-fe and create a multidisc package.
Install the package.
Then, just like multidisc PSN games, press the PS button and select the disk you want to insert.
It doesn't get any easier than that. Press PS button, select the disk. That is it. That is all there is to it.

For PS3 packages: just look a the INSTALLATION procedure in the pop-fe README file.
Do exactly what is says.
Then

./pop-fe.py --ps3-pkg=my-package.pkg disk1.cue disc2.cue ...

then copy my-package.pkg to your ps3 and install it.

Did exactly as you said, but it doesn't work for some reason.

I'll try this this week. Thank you.

sorry to bump this threat but is there a solution? i have webman, multiman and irisman installed and i dont see any option swap discs while I'm on the MGS screen that prompts to swap discs. I tried using the webman browser to mount the second disc but i keep getting an error to quit the game first which doesnt help. if im in multiman or irisman and i press the ps button for the xmb i dont see a way to swap the discs

pop-fe is the way to go. I never have thought I would say this, but 'original' Classics are the best by now

that worked. Only thing is it doesn't look as sharp as the CUE files. Is there an option I needed to select to keep the sharpness or is that just what happens when it's converted? Smoothing and full screen are off btw

That is because pop-fe is instead using ps1_netemu instead of ps1_emu. ps1_emu never had a disc swap option inside PS button menu as it was never used to run PS Store releases, only physical PS1 discs. If you are wanting to keep the sharpness, it will require disc swap through WebMAN MOD.

ah that makes sense. what i ended up doing was using the single file from pop-fe to get past the disc prompt and save. now im back on the original disc two file on ps1_emu because the clarity difference is noticeable enough for me
