PS2 PS1 multidisk on Matrix clone with 'PSX FIX' turned off?

Hi, I posted about this problem on other forums but so far I haven't had much luck, so I thought you guys could help me out here. It's more of a question than anything else.
Anyways, I got this PS2 a few days ago, since my old one broke down.
This model is a PS2 Slim from Hong Kong (SCPH-90006) and it came with a Matrix clone chip (not sure which, but it's version 1.93). I have no previous experience with Matrix Infinity, so I thought mine was legitimate at first. However, I cannot save the settings on the modchip screen (they either revert, or the menu freezes). So that's how I found out it was a clone.
"PSX MULTIDISK FIX" is turned off and I cannot enable it. I read online that certain chips save only once and never again, and it's possible that I disabled the setting by accident, but I'm 95% sure that it was always deactivated.
So I was wondering if there's a possibility of playing PS1 multidisk games even with that option disabled. I only have single disk games at the moment, and I'm missing a PS1 memory card, so I can't test this right now.

The PS2 itself seems to work ok, although it has a minor problem with the disk tray... basically the CD doesn't spin if the console is already turned on - it only spins when I reset the PS2 with the disk inside. So when I'm on the menu/browser, the CD isn't recognised. Not sure how to explain it. I found a workaround that works most of the time. The explanation was that there's a missing plastic part at the front of the console that touches the sensor, so I have to press down on a little 'thingy' to make it work.

I am able to run PS1 and PS2 fine, along with DVD Video and audio CDs. I noticed that in some games, the FMVs are skipped, but it's possible that the media is damaged or dirty. It's been a while...

Is there an alternative for me in case I am unable to play multidisk games natively?

Sorry for the weird question and thanks for your time.

Disable modchip on start (and be sure that it is), then run FreeDVDBoot and install MechaPwn. Make copy of this PSX game and apply Master Disc patch on it. However, unexpected issues could come out, especially that this is clone. The best would be if You get rid of this modchip.

Thanks. I'll take a look at this MechaPwn. I forgot to say that I had FMCB installed on a memory card already (not in use right now).
In regards to getting rid of the clone, I'm not too knowledgeable on PS2 hardware, so I will have to ask a technician to way to swap my modchip (hopefully I can find an official one). Though that will have to wait a little bit :(

Only skills needed for that is good video tutorial how to disassemble console and assemble it back. You don't need soldering anything, just take by fingers for a cable and gently (You don't want rip out whole trail ;p) pitching in opposite directions until he goes away. Only if solder points was intentionally merged, You must mandatory separate them (by knife if You don't have "unsucker" (I don't know how this tools is named in English)).

But of course the best will be if this be done by professional.

Thank you for the tips! It's a relief to know that I don't need to solder, because I don't know how.
I'll most likely take my console to a professional, just in case - not sure when.
I'll leave the topic open for now in case someone has other suggestions.
