Chips are ROMs, so it is not possible. Yet some "dual bios" can be designed in the same way as scene did it for Dreamcast but I've never seen anything similar for PS2 unfortunately.
I had the chance to test a SCPH-700xx bios chip on a partially faulty SCPH-900xx PS2 but it did not display anything on screen. I assume this is because of the major changes that occurred in the Deckard hardware revision. This was an 8C date code PS2 that was FMCB compatible BIOS till I de-soldered it and replaced it with an old 8D bios chip that returned PS2 to partial functionality again.
The PS2 is referred to as partially faulty as it only boots when I press on the CPU. If I release pressure on the CPU it freezes. Since the whole motherboard flexes when I do it, it could be a cold solder joint anywhere on the motherboard. The plan is to remove the electrolytic caps and do an oven reflow.
I've got like 20 FMCB compatible SCPH-90002 PS2s so killing this PS2 in the process it's no big deal. Plus I've already removed its original FMCB compatible bios chip that's ready to transplant into another non-FMCB compatible SCPH-900xx 8C and newer PS2s.
What could I expect to happen if I put a bios chip from a PAL SCPH-50002 GH-026 motherboard onto a NTSC-J SCPH-50000 GH-026 motherboard, would it even boot?
Asking as I might have a PS2 with a corrupted BIOS as discs show up in the browser with a memory card icon instead of the disc icon. This is a previously unopened and non modded PS2.
I'm in Australia so I only have access to PAL PS2 BIOS's.
UPDATE: Changed BIOS chip and PS2 booted and the problem remains so it's not BIOS corruption. Also Noticed the PS2 languages changed to the default PAL languages. No more Japanese language option.
