PS3 PS2 Codebreaker potential issue?

I have a 60 GB CECH-A01 PlayStation 3--meaning that it is either fully backward compatible with PS2 games, or it has the absolute highest rate of backwards compatibility (due to the presence of actual PS2 hardware within its architecture). I recently purchased a PS2 Codebreaker, which I can load on the PS3 no problem. However, I added cheats for a certain game (Mega Man X8) and tried to load the game by ejecting the Codebreaker and replacing it with the Mega Man X8 disc. The screen has gone totally black and remains so, but the program(?) is still active, because I can press the Home button on the controller and it responds.
What is going on?

Eject acts like on real PS2. It prevent swapping discs without its verification first.
