PS3 PS2 config files on backwards compatible CECHC04

Hi guys, I'm having issues with getting ps2 config files to work on the european ps3 with semi BC.

I use Webman to mount all my ps2 ISOs, and apparently some games will get their config files automatically just by dropping the raw ISO into /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO, as seen in the image:

However, some other games which do need config files aswell to run properly don't seem to be getting their config files installed automatically in webman.

So i tried downloading their config files from here http://ps3.aldostools.org/ps2config.html in the "CUSTOM" tab, and i manually placed them in /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO along with their ISO, renaming them properly:

The ps3 and webman will not recognize these manually placed config files and so the games don't get their proper fix, my question is what could i be possible doing wrong? From what i read that's how you install ps2 config files when mounting isos on webman and it's suposed to work, but it's not, any suggestion? thanks in advance.

You're probably using ps2_gxemu, which is the PS2 emulator on the half-BC models. That game is broken on that emulator as well, but these configs are made for ps2_netemu and will not work. You will need to manually switch your emulator to ps2_netemu in order to get the game working.

Hit the nail right on the head. The semi-BC systems have the config files embedded into the emu. You will have to switch over to the emu for non-BC systems. Kozzy released a version for the semi-BC models to fix one game. That being said he also said you can't add new ones only replace. Just swap over and use a PS2 Classics Launcher

Alright guys thanks for the replies will try that, by the way is it not possible to somehow edit the CUSTOM or ENC config files made for the ps2_netemu so that they can be compatible/recognizable by the semi BC ps2_gxemu?

Kind of. You can see some research here done by @kozarovv on that matter: https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Talk:PS2_Emulation#Extend_config_table_by_50.25_in_ps2_gxemu

It increases the internal space of the config table to allow more, so someone could compile configs like Formula One 2001 and others that would benefit gxemu (a lot of custom configs at this point), edit them to only include gxemu-needed stuff, and then add them to a patch and "fix" gxemu. It would probably be more work than I would want to look into at this point of time, though.

The problem is gxemu is not able to load external config files, i was talking about it here https://www.psx-place.com/threads/cechc-e.36951/#post-329138

Long story short... gxemu have a collection of configs inside the .self organized in a tricky file structure. Think in that structure as a screen of the tetris game filled completly with pieces up to the top border
Every config is composed by several tetris pieces located at different positions of the scren... if we delete a config we are creating "holes" in the tetris screen that can be used to add a new config, but for this trick to work both configs needs to be composed by the same tetris pieces... otherway the new config doesnt "fits" in the file structure
By now we can do that with a hexeditor and dedicating it lot of work but is extremelly restrictive, it cant be considered a viable solution

The real solution is to "empty" the tetris screen completly and then reorganize it trying to optimize where are located every piece of the tetris, but this really needs to be made automatically (by an app), because is the kind of thing where a computer beats the human clearly, lol, we are talking about organizing hundreds of configs and every config have a few commands so there are thousands of data fields to organize

Woah didn't expect so much detailed feedback on the topic, thanks for the detailed info and the links guys really interesting to read, appreciated :smile new:
As some of you pointed out i guess there's no need in bothering with getting more config files of specific games for the gxemu, granted that the complexity of the task and the ammount of work it takes versus the number of people with this model of semi BC ps3 might not be worth it. So yeah in this case the way to go is simply toggling netemu on webman for specific games.
