PS2 PS2 disc reading issue

I recently bought an 50001 model Ps2, according to the seller it could still read discs, but when I tested nothing worked, so I bought a new KHS 400c laser from China and had it installed, and it's now pretty much flawlessly runninng Ps2 games (both original and burned) and original Ps1 games, however, something weird keeps happening when I try to play regular DVDs (movies) and burned ps1 games, the console actually thinks they're PS2 games! And while the regular and burned ps2 games appear as yellow discs on the menu screen, burned ps1 games show up as black discs, but the system still recognizes them as "Playstation 2 disc" and will go back to the menu when I select them. Does anyone here have any idea of what this issue is?

I didn't replace the laser by myself, I went into a tech shop and they did it. I did this because I tried to replace the laser on my previous PS2 (a 39001) and it didn't work. But I'll try going to them again and see what's the issue, but it's probably a faulty modchip.

I think this might be the same behaviour as when MechaPwn has been used and the Force Unlock option was selected.
In the later versions of MechaPwn (3.0 RC3 & RC4), you can reverse the Force Unlock without need for a NVRAM backup.

But I thought Mechapwn didn't apply to Ps2 burned discs? Shouldn't I be able to play burned ps1 discs with no issues if Mechapwn was the issue?
  • ESR needs so called ESR patching which turn disc into fake DVD-Video.
  • MechaPwn needs so called master disc patching which turned disc into disc for debug kits.
  • 2nd generation modchips needs button combinations voodoo to switch into PSX or DVD-Video modes.
  • MechaPwn with Force PS2 option chosen during installation permanently disabling support PSX games and DVDV but user no longer need patching games.
