PS3 PS2 Emulation Controller Remap?

Hi Guys,
was not able to find any information on this myself, so i am asking here.

I use ManaGunz to mount ps2 backup images of my ps2 games, and as great as the classics
are, sometimes i wish i could remap keys/assign additional keys (or stick axis) to already mapped
inputs.

So, give it to me straight please, is this even possible?
And if so, how would one go about doing this?

As Always, Thanks for any Answers in Advance,
;-)

Thank you for taking the time, i did try that, and it works, sort of!
i used https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ps2-patch-engine-by-pelvicthrustman.19167/
to apply the generated patch. (Used a VM, this thing seems to contain a virus?)

I tried it on my copy of Kings Field Ancient City.
I tried to map turning left/right to the right stick instead of the D-Pad and it worked but walking forward
and turning (left stick = walking, right stick = turning) does not seem to work, whenever i turn left/right
using the right stick it seems the forward input from the left stick is no longer processed, so now i can only
turn in place :-/

Very cool tool though, are there any other tools like that? can one somehow configure the emulator?

Thanks in advance for all your answers :-)

Is there something similar available for PSP games?
Yes, the PSP emulator inside PS3 firmware allows to remap buttons using a config file (MINIS.EDAT or MINIS2.EDAT), is mentioned at bottom of this wiki page
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/PSP_Emulation#PSP_Remasters_Button_Remapping

But is not completly documented, as you can see every buton has an identifyer, not all them are known, and if you spend a bit of time looking at the examples documented you are going to realize there are a couple of details that doesnt makes sense... lets say... there is some mistery related with this feature

Btw @mrjaredbeta have you thought if this "button remapping" feature could be a command supported by the PS2 emu configs ?, is a single value with 8 bytes lenght
It would not surprise me if they implemented it in the PS2 emus too, the PSP required it, but the team that was developing the PS2 emus maybe considered it could be a handy feature and dedicated a command for it

@sandungas It doesn't seem like there is a command for that in gxemu/netemu, unfortunately. I don't know much about what each command is doing, but I doubt there is one that can remap buttons just because of the similarities between the DualShock 2 and 3 and there not being a need for it.
