Hi guys.i have a question regarding ps2 lasers for the scph 50004 model.i have seen online that people tend to prefer the khs400c over the hd7 but all the 400c lasers i have tried they read dvds fast but for cds(blue discs) they go on the browser screen first and then after 6-7 seconds it reads the cd.this happened on 7-8 different 400c lasers but the hd7 reads everything fast from the start.is that the normal behavior of the 400c?

Have you tried PMAP? If not search here in the forums. It calibrates the laser and makes all the difference in load times with all disc types.

The thing is one of the lasers was in a ps2 that came from the factory with that laser and it was factory sealed and with very low hours of usage

That sounds like you found a good replacement part for your system. However even in factory form the laser calibration performed using PMAP is done per console. All components in gaming systems are mass produced. The calibration is what is needed to account for the small tolerance variations found in mass production. Sony used their own calibration software on every console that came out of the factory for this reason. I have worked on several ps2s and every one of them needed adjustments. Even still that calibration is all that some of the ones I have worked on needed, not always a laser even if there were disc types it would not read at all before.

That's part of it. The PMAP program allows you to adjust those screws while being able to know that it is in range. But once that is done it does an electronic adjustment of the laser also. On ps2 slims PMAP only adjusts the electronic porting as there is no mechanical screws to turn to adjust the laser.

Not really. When it comes to the mechanical adjustment you can move the screws with a screwdriver or Allen wrench but without PMAP you have no clue if you are making things better or worse other than moving the screw putting in a disc and testing between each adjustment. But even still the electronic adjustment cannot be performed at all without PMAP. The laser calibration is a service I offer in my console repair business and there is a reason I charge for it is it works but it is a little labor intensive. It requires a full disassembly of the console soldering a TTL to USB device and using command line software which is not hard but can be for people who don't have a lot of experience with it. If you have all the stuff to do it or if you get all the stuff to do it, I will help walk you through the process if you need help but honestly there is no way around it.

I've been away from the computer for a while. follow this video it is what i used to learn to use pmap.
