PS3 PS2 games showing black screen

Hi, I modified my ps3 a while back using rebug evilnat 4.91 cfw. I have been playing ps3 games on it but then came across my old ps2 games and decided to play it using webman.

I am facing an issue with a game (Legaia 2 - SLUS-20414) where it causes a black screen.

I have the original game which and used imgburn to copy the ISO.

I followed a youtube tutorial for enabling codebreaker:
1. ISO Buster to copy the contents of the ISO to a folder
2. Copied BOOT.ELF to the folder
3. Copied CODEBREAKER.ELF to the folder
4. Copied and replaced SYSTEM.CNF
5. Renamed SLUS_204.14 to SLUS_204.14.ELF
6. Used CD/DVD Rom generator and copied all the contents from the folder to the program. (File structure was identical to the original ISO)
7. In the volume tab under disc name I entered the game id (SLUS-20414), Producer: PLAYSTATION and America has the area.
8. Exported the IML
9. Used IML2ISO to recreate the ISO from the folder
10. Copied the ISO to PS3 in the following directory: /dev_hdd0/game/PS2ISO/

I then launched webman which mounted the ISO and I was able to run codebreaker.
But when I launch SLUS_204.14.ELF the game loads but as soon as it gets to the point where the options are made available to start a new game or load game, the ps3 seems to crash with a black screen.

I even tried to launch SLUS_204.14.ELF without first running CODEBREAKER.ELF, the outcome is still the same.

Has anyone come across this issue and perhaps has a resolution to this issue? I have played and finished this game countless times in the past. Just wanted to play with cheats enabled.

Appreciate any assistance and also apologize if I am posting this in the wrong section.

Thank you.

Edit:
I have also copied the original ISO to my ps3 and running it without make any changes to it, and it works fine.

I have also tried this. Some games work - others don't. For example, it works with "Haunting ground" and "project zero". But not with e.g. Siren. I think it has to do with the type of copy protection. I would like to know more about this.

It's probably broken LBA of the added extra files, you want to add them to the very end of the disc so it doesn't affect the file order, try renaming CODEBREAKER.ELF to SLUS_204.14 in the SYSTEM.CNF as
9999_999.99 or ZZZZ_ZZZ.ZZ, ideally you'd be better off using something like the ESR patcher that patches the ISO rather than having to manually rebuild it.
You'll also need to patch the Coderbreaker ELF too so it doesn't go into a boot loop of loading it's self as SYSTEM.CNF so rename the entry to
ZZZZZ1.ZZZ an use that .CNF to load the original game ELF.

I can't remember if the ESR patcher injected it's own ELF or not to swap game region from PAL to NTSC or vice-versa, or if it just added it's own DVD-VIDEO filesystem outside UDF with blank video files, you'd need to check it with IsoBuster.

Interesting! - I may try it - but since I'm new to this, it would be great if you could take it in a detailed step by step list.

I'll have a look over the weekend, I think I had v9.2, 9.3 & 10.0 not sure if that was the last version need to check redump.org etc.

You mentioned BOOT.ELF that was an option seperate to SYSTEM.CNF to boot ELFs off USB it had 3 or 5 options BOOT.ELF, BOOT1.ELF etc, to see the entries unpack & uncompress it then open it in a hexeditor edit then repack & compress, I know some of the ELF packers & compression tools had problems with uLE so test it in that first to make sure Codebreaker runs & boots.
